Working with both elected officials and community groups is a skill to master. Cities get community input in different — mostly just advisory — ways. Some examples of community input channeling in the United States include #Atlanta, Georgia’s 25 neighborhood planning units (serving the total of 240 neighborhoods) or #NYC’s system of 59 community boards (consisting of up to 50 unsalaried members). Best practices of local governing can often come out of substantive interaction of public officials with citizens.
