When you visit Iceland’s largest shipping company, you expect to hear about aggressive growth strategies, revenue forecasts, and cost-cutting techniques to squeeze every dollar of profit out of revenue. What we heard instead from Eimskip was more impressive: —> How they’re fighting to make sure their employees see this as a great place to work —> How they tore down all their offices and brought people together to collaborate —> How culture is their driving focus and why you’ll find the CEO of the third largest company in Iceland working side by side with his employees —> How they’re developing the next leaders (succession plan) AND the next generation of leaders (leadership academy) —> How data drives their cost-savings, supplier compliance, procurement, and more —> How Eimskip handles the ever fluctuating ebb and flow of container demand And plenty more! Harpa Hödd Sigurðardóttir, Agla Huld Thorarinsdottir, Vilhjálmur Kári Haraldsson and others opened up their business and walked us through it step by step, answering questions all along the way. We spent so much time talking we actually missed our opportunity to tour the facility(!) but the knowledge shared was worth it. Next time we’re in Reykjavik, maybe we’ll swing by and see if they can give us that tour! Thank you Eimskip for a great afternoon, a great visit, and the nifty little keepsake to remember y’all by! (Thanks to International Business Seminars McBride Center for International Business, and Baylor University - Hankamer School of Business for the opportunity to come out to Iceland and engage with these business leaders while experiencing the natural beauty of this Nordic country!)
