My son is a part of a robotics team that takes part in First Indiana Robotics. During the competition, the term "Gracious Professionalism" is frequently used. This phrase was coined by Dr. Woodie Flowers, who is a Co-Chair of First Robotics and a professor at MIT. The term encourages high-quality work, values others, and respects individuals and the community. What does this term mean? During the competition, I have witnessed competing teams working together to win matches. If a robot malfunctions, competing teams jump in to fix the issue. Teams that are not competing also cheer with excitement during matches. How does this idea apply to recruiting? In recruiting, recruiters collaborate to find the best candidate for their clients. They share knowledge on positions and clients with each other. They celebrate every win the team has, even if they were not the ones getting the win. Why is this important? Recruiting can be challenging. Working together, instead of against each other, will help individuals, teams, and companies be as successful as possible. Meet one of our spring Robotics Engineering Interns, Manoj Oddiraju. When he's not making us laugh or sharing insights about life as an undergraduate, Manoj dedicates his time to designing for our team. Recently, he has been leading the redesign of a rigid conveyor system to ensure it mounts seamlessly onto our unloading robot, preventing any box snags. His design philosophy is simple yet impactful: invest time and attention into meticulous design so that others only need minutes to understand or fix any issues. We love that mindset! My first month at Pemamek as a UI Designer has been fun, challenging, and motivating. Here are some of my insights in no particular order: 🤹♂️ I'm constantly challenged by different emerging usability issues and trying to brainstorm solution ideas for them, all while drawing some presentable UI layouts. Consistency in design is difficult to achieve when all the parts are moving all the time. But we'll get there eventually. 🎨 What I've already learned is that a UX/UI professional needs to listen to every opinion and take that into account in the design. Finding arguments for and against opinions, both your own and others', is crucial in moving in the right direction. I find myself asking "why" every single day. 🐒 My team is awesome and welcomed me warmly. I get to enjoy the freedom of working at my own pace—though collaborating with my teammates—and I guess that's the perk of being the only UI Designer in my team. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm excited to go to work every day! 💡 Want more details? Just drop me a message.
