The Indian government has approved an expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) health insurance scheme to cover all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, regardless of their socio-economic status. This move aims to benefit approximately 45 million families with 60 million senior citizens. Key points: 1. The scheme previously covered over 352 million citizens. 2. Senior citizens aged 70+ will be issued a new distinct card under AB-PMJAY. 3. Those already covered under AB-PMJAY will get an additional top-up cover of ₹5 lakh per year. 4. Eligible seniors can choose between their existing scheme or opt for AB-PMJAY. 5. The expansion is in line with the government's promise to increase coverage for senior citizens. The article also mentions that India is rapidly aging, with projections showing that by 2050, one-fifth of India's population will be above 60 years old. This demographic shift is cited as a reason for the focus on senior citizens in healthcare policy. #ayushmanbharat #health #PMJAY #AyushmanBharatYojana #HealthScheme #News #BreakingNews #Government #SocialEconomy #TimesOfIndia #NarenderSinghModi #letsgo #healthcare #doctor #everyone #noida #hospitalinnoida #exploremore #treatment #HealthCheckup #felixhospitals

Over half of the U.S. population resides in Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas, and the country has less than a third of the psychiatrists needed. 🌐 The report calls for urgent policy changes, including telehealth expansion, competitive reimbursement rates, and accurate provider directories. Did you know that most Texans say they’ve experienced a non-medical factor impacting their health? EHF's statewide poll found that 75% of Texans say they experienced a non-medical factor impacting their health. More than half of Texans (53%) who report they are in poor health said they lacked access to affordable housing and healthy food compared to just 34% of those in good health. Similarly, 41% of those in poor health say they don’t have a place to exercise compared to 28% of Texans in good health. “These numbers reveal what my patients at safety-net clinics taught me – their health concerns were predictable yet preventable outcomes of the challenging social and economic circumstances they faced,” says EHF's Ann Barnes, MD, MPH. "If doctors and clinics ask about non-medical factors and then Medicaid and other health insurance plans start to pay for things like food prescriptions and interventions by community health workers, then we’ll begin to get better health outcomes." Height inequality is a widely used and well-established anthropometric measure of health inequality, but it has never been used for assessing the effect of #HealthInsurance. Using #HeightInequality as an indicator, this column shows that the introduction of public health insurance schemes over the last 150 years substantially reduced #HealthInequality. However, a variety of outcome measures are needed to monitor health inequality in order to devise policies that can reduce it. "Health care in this country sucks. Insurance rates are prohibitively high, making quality care inaccessible. Although programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act have decreased the uninsured population, 26 million Americans remain uninsured. This exacerbates socioeconomic disparities and secures the United States a spot at the bottom of the list for quality, reasonably-priced health care in high-income countries." 🇺🇲 -- Riya Vankamamidi, (Opinion Columnist, Trintonian) #healthcare #insurance #quality #cost #poor #usa https://lnkd.in/eNv5-DX3
