▪ All cultures to be honoured Let us work together to pursue a world where every voice is heard, every culture is honored, and every individual is respected. 〰 Essential Fact #5 Women only represent 33% of the workforce at large tech companies (Deloitte) What is the percentage of women in tech? A report released in 2022, it’s estimated at 33%. Many tech organizations worldwide are managing to keep female representation on an upward trajectory, but this increase is minimal (about 1% per year). 〰 Essential Fact #6 50% of women in tech leave their jobs by age 35 (Accenture) The proportion of women who go into tech has decreased in the past 35 years and now, half of the women in tech will leave their jobs by age 35. This is substantial compared to 20% of women who leave by this age in other fields. Why? One reason could be the lack of job advancements for women. Women in tech have only a 28% chance of becoming a manger, compared to 40% of men. 〰 Essential Fact #7 Women hold 26.5% of executive, senior-level, and management position in S&P 500 companies (Statista) When it comes to leadership positions, women in the technology sector are in stride with the rest of the economy. Women make up almost 27% of leadership positions in tech, but many tech companies exceed this percentage. #OSA #WomenInTech #IWD2024 #DEI #Inclusion #OnWards #UpWards #StrongerTogether #DiversityandInclusion #InspireInclusion #WomenOfImpact #NetworkersInternational #GlobalRecruitment #ITRecruitment #OutsourceSA #Leadership #InclusionMatters #wecare Geralyn Naidu Shade Woodward

Women hold only 26% of data and analytics jobs in the United States, and many of these roles are at entry-level positions. I have read this article on #womenindata from Deloitte highlighting this glaring statistic many times, yet it seems to hold relevance. This underrepresentation is a stark reminder of the persistent gender gap in STEM fields, despite women making up nearly half of the US workforce. To set up #womeninanalytics for success, I have summarized several key strategies that can be implemented. Even if we implemented one of them, it could move the needle on this topic. 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Encourage girls to explore STEM fields from a young age by providing access to robotics clubs, coding classes, and data science workshops. This helps break down stereotypes and build interest in these careers early on. 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬: Establish mentorship programs where experienced women in data analytics can guide and support younger women entering the field. Highlight successful female role models in STEM to inspire and motivate. 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Offer continuous learning opportunities and professional development to help women advance their skills in data analytics. This includes technical training in #datascience, #machinelearning, and #AI, as well as soft skills like leadership and communication. 𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Create work environments that support work-life balance through flexible working hours, remote work options, and family-friendly policies. This helps retain women in the workforce and allows them to thrive in their careers. 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: Foster an inclusive workplace culture that values diversity and promotes equality. This involves addressing unconscious biases, ensuring equal opportunities for advancement, and creating a supportive community where women feel valued and heard. 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬: Companies must take proactive measures to ensure these strategies are implemented effectively. This includes setting measurable diversity goals, regularly reviewing and adjusting hiring practices, and actively promoting women into leadership positions. Women's groups can amplify these efforts by offering networking opportunities, advocating for policy changes, and providing platforms for women to share their success stories. As women, we can enhance our presence in #dataanalytics by continuously developing our skills, seeking mentorship, and building strong professional networks. By supporting each other and advocating for systemic changes, we can create a more inclusive and equitable landscape in #data and #analytics. As we recognize Women's History Month, it is imperative to continue driving positive change for women. This article posted last week, shares data proving there is still a ton of work to do: "Compared to other non-tech industries, women in technology roles have some of the lowest numbers of representation at every level. McKinsey found that only 32% of entry-level technology hardware roles are held by women and 43% of entry-level software roles. And the numbers decrease as you climb the ladder, with women representing only 17% of hardware and 30% of software roles at the SVP level." As a Marketplace Diversity Ambassador at TEKsystems, I am thankful to be in conversations daily with companies that value DEI, but the questions is often "how do we get there?". If you'd like to talk further around proven, progressive strategies to help with your DEI journey, let's talk! And be sure to keep an eye out for my next post with details on an upcoming webinar featuring two of my colleagues speaking on how leaders can transform and grow a DEI strategy into a strong, long-lasting program! https://lnkd.in/eF7gJwKm #womenshistorymonth #womenintechnology #womenintech #teksystems #diversityintech

According to Accenture, 50% of young women who go into tech leave by age 35. That statistic is disturbing to me; however, it’s not at all surprising. As President of the Silicon Valley chapter of High-Tech High Heels, I’ve seen firsthand the important movement to encourage more girls to embrace STEM. Yet, even with the boom we’ve been having in tech, the gender imbalance is actually worse than it was 35 years ago, when 35% of tech workers were women. Today, it’s only 32%, and we’re leaving at a 45% higher rate than men. How do we stop this female exodus from tech? By supporting diversity. Retaining women in STEM fields is in everyone’s best interest because it’s been proven that in truly diverse companies, where women feel empowered and supported from the ground floor to the C-Suite level, women stay, thrive, and drive innovation that boosts the bottom line. Check out this report from Accenture and let me know what you think. We, as an industry, need to move forward, not regress when it comes to encouraging, recruiting, and retaining female talent in tech. https://lnkd.in/dS_w5trD Ravi Poddar, Donna Yasay, Jodi Shelton https://lnkd.in/deaMJ2V5 #STEM #Accenture #WIT
