oh wow. The proposed changes are worth fighting against. Robert, your concern is on the money. #roadsafety #pedestriandeaths #walkability #bikes #safety #wellbeing #streetspeeds #streets #councils #speedlimit #speeddesign
Here is my submission on the Setting of Speed Limits Rule 2024. Particularly objectionable in the proposed Rule are: (i) Dropping the Coalition agreement to only reverse speed limits reductions ‘where it is safe to do so’; Road Controlling Authorities (eg councils) apart from NZTA will no longer be able to stop these; and (ii) Compulsory speed limit classifications whose lower limits are higher than the safe and appropriate speed for each road. Communities will no longer have the power to effect safer speeds if they wish to do so. I call on councils around the country to join Auckland Council in opposing the Rule. Consultation closes on 11 July.

Prof. Subhomoy Bhattacharjee recently wrote an article titled "Railways delays ambitious PPP train plan due to capacity, land issues". The article was published in Business Standard. The Railway Ministry has re-evaluated the plan to offer 150 pairs of trains on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode and decided to wait. The author is a Professor of Practice at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). Read the article below- https://lnkd.in/gmg5KeS7 #jgu #jgls #indianrailways #capacity #articleoftheday

It could be referenced to road monitoring practices in Vietnam
Our new road condition monitoring standard can help local authorities control the costs of highway maintenance. PAS 2161:2024 sets out a standardized way of classifying and reporting on the condition of roads. It helps ensure you get a complete, timely and accurate understanding of road quality so you can anticipate deterioration and prioritize repairs more efficiently. https://lnkd.in/ebCRiTvt I have just two questions: 1. Why not put train line as well, next to tunnel? 2. Why so long? This tunnel pay off itself in 5 years or so, easy. But no... In China it will be done in one year and moved on to the next project. One more suggestion, why we need to move earth, why we can't use spoil for Gravesend expansion in the river itself, like Holland doing? Why everything so complicated? Just don't...

Oyo State Government Shuts Down Alao-akala Highway To Install Weighbridges Oyo State Government has shut down temporarily the 76.67km Alao-Akala Memorial Highway to construct weighbridges on it. Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, who disclosed this on Thursday said the move was necessitated by the desire to preserve the road. He said when completed, the weighbridges would be deployed to determine the weight of heavy duty trucks plying the road, adding that while trailers within the permissible weights would be allowed to use the road after paying the stipulated fees, heavy duty trucks with excess weight would be turned back. The Commissioner stated that fee payments on the road would only be applicable to trailers. He maintained that the move is to protect the new road designed to serve as a link between Ogbomoso and Iseyin as well as other parts of the state and the country, noting that the weighbridges will help to reduce the burden on the road and enhance its longevity. According to Shangodoyin, though the design and construction of the road were done with quality in mind, it is a Trunk B Road that should be plied by heavy duty trucks and articulated vehicles that are within permissible weight. Setting of Speed Limits Rule 2024 https://lnkd.in/gf_3SKTG There are some really worrying ideas, alongside populist rhetoric, in the proposals and explanations. A Minister is to be given the power to override the due process of investigation, evaluation and local engagement to just wipe out years of investment and improvement in speed management, through ideological slogans about 'blanket' speed limits and delays that are unfounded in any case. Adrenaline-junky Seymour talking about taking the 'fun' out of driving is not responsible government. The 'fun' of near-death experience goes sour when death comes along. Please, everyone, read, study and submit quickly - there's very little time. Like the Curate's egg, the proposal is good in parts, but there are a lot of rotten bits in there. The cost of making roads more deadly is placed on local RCAs, with no certainty of NLTF funding being diverted from worthwhile (or other) projects to this pointless exercise in making safe roads deadly again
