This Friday at Glastonbury Festival’s LeftField, I’m speaking on a panel about Israel Palestine: Hope and Solidarity in Action, with Ahmed Alnaouq, Rachel Shabi and Em Hilton. Our discussion starts at 1.30pm, at the LeftField tent.
Please spread the word and if you are at Glastonbury - please join us.
It’s so important that Glastonbury and LeftField have made time in their programme to create intentional space for Palestinian and Jewish voices and the voices of solidarity activists to be heard.
Since October 7th 2023, more than 47,000 Palestinian men, women, children and babies have been killed in Israel’s military onslaught of the Gaza Strip. More than 60,000 Palestinians have received horrific and in many cases life changing injuries, and thousands more people are buried under the ruble.
In May 2024, The International Court of Justice ruled by 13 votes to two that Israel should: “Immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”
Israel’s bombardment of Rafah and Gaza are ongoing.
Gaza has been destroyed, large parts of Gaza are uninhabitable. Civilian infrastructure including hospitals, ambulances, schools, refugee camps, residential homes and neighbourhoods, shops, parks, media organisations, have been bombed by Israel.
International law, international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions have been discarded and trashed over the past devastating 8 months, and more than 75 years of Israel’s military occupation of Palestine, the longest running military occupation in the world.

Well done Shaista, it’s important that intelligent, progressive and inclusive voices are heard if we are going to create more respectful, factual and collaborative conversations about the situation.
Two years ago, I got the chance to visit Mount Tabor which is located in historic Palestine (now called northern Israel). This is and will always be my favorite mountain in the entire world and I will hope that everyone will get the chance to visit this mount in their lifetime.
Northern Israel (cities like Nazareth and Galilee) consist of a variety of Jewish, Arab, and African communities. In order to live here, you must have an Israeli citizenship. Despite having an Israeli citizenship, Arab and African residents still face discrimination and are still subjected to Israel's military and marshall law practices.
Today, nearly 90,000 residents of northern Israel have evacuated from their homes since Israel began their war on southern Lebanon. Nearly 90% of Lebanon and Jordan population comprise of Palestinian refugees following the 1948 expulsion. Still today, Palestinians from Jordan and Lebanon are not allow to return to Palestine and purchase land or a home. Palestinians in Lebanon are not allow to enter Israel-Palestine at all. I am grateful I have the opportunity to enter and visit Palestine but there is no hope for me to ever moving there because this right has been taken away unjustly since the creation of Israel, which this coo continues to be backed by US and British governments.
I am sharing this because, obviously, Gaza has the world's attention. Rightfully so. But, it is important to uncover what else has been going on and what has always been taking place in Israel. While mainstream media and our failing political leaders continue to distract and confused the American people, we will shed light and truth of what continues to take place.
For those of you that may know, Mount Tabor is a historic biblical landmark that Jesus visited which that day became known as the Feast of Transfiguration, which means "to change from within." In order to change our world, we must first change from within...and that will make all the difference.

Honored to speak with David Common on CBC/Radio-Canada Metro Morning about the urgent need to break the chain of violence and work toward a lasting peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
As a Palestinian refugee originally from Gaza who has lost loved ones, family members, friends, and colleagues, I know the devastating price of this conflict. I have personally paid my bill, having been shot in the leg during a peaceful protest, spending months and undergoing many surgeries just to walk again. Every morning, I live with the fear for my children, checking the news to make sure there’s no military invasion or attacks before sending my daughters to school. This morning, I had the same conversation with my wife and we decided not to send our daughters to school—and tragically, we were right. Today, a 12-year-old Palestinian child was shot to death by the Israeli army in Ramallah, where my wife and kids live.
In our discussion, I highlighted the polarization within Canadian communities, driven by this distant conflict. Unfortunately, Canadians have imported two of the worst elements from the region: dehumanization of the other and loss of hope. These factors fuel justifications for hurting others, whether in the name of self-protection or revenge.
I also addressed the important role that the diaspora and Canada must play in taking a brave step toward peace. This begins with an immediate ceasefire and a clear plan for the day after, starting with recognizing the State of Palestine and pushing forward a genuine peace agenda. If we leave it to the spoilers, this war could continue for another 76 years.
I urged Canadians to listen to and adopt the needs of the people in our region. People there are asking for basic human rights: freedom, liberty, dignity, and peace. These are universal values that Canadians, too, should champion in their call for an end to this conflict.
We need a collective awareness among Canadians to understand the roots of the conflict, not just the consequences. October 7th is a tragic result of decades of managing conflict rather than addressing its core causes.
I emphasized the possibility of peace and the critical need for a just and long-lasting solution—one that can bring sustainable peace to the region and help heal the divisions we see in our own society.
Let’s continue raising awareness and fostering dialogue, so we can move toward a future where peace is possible.

9AM SOLUTION Stands in Solidarity with Palestine
We believe in standing up for justice and human rights. As the world watches the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Rafah, we urge everyone to remain vigilant and informed about the realities on the ground. The tragic loss of more than 36,000 Palestinian lives in Gaza is a stark reminder of the urgent need for peace and justice.
We cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of 1.4 million displaced people sheltering in Rafah amid relentless bombardment. Their plight calls for our compassion and action. The devastating conflict, sparked by the events of October 7th, has left countless families shattered and communities in ruins.
We join the global call for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, and a lasting resolution that respects the rights and dignity of all people in the region. We stand with Palestine and urge our community to stay informed, speak out, and support efforts for peace.

A Crisis of Humanity: The World Can't Ignore Palestine's Suffering❗️
As I write this, the death toll continues to rise, and the world's silence is deafening even though so-called human rights organisations became useless at this time. The people of Palestine are facing unimaginable suffering, and it's our moral obligation to act.
The Devastating Reality of 2024:
At least 32,623 people and children killed
95,092 people injured
Thousands of homes destroyed, leaving families without shelter
Essential infrastructure, like hospitals and schools, severely damaged 💔
Humanitarian aid and medical supplies blocked from reaching those in need
We Must Act:
As a global community, we have a responsibility to speak out against injustice and support those affected by conflict. Let's use our voices to:
Demand an end to the violence and occupation
Advocate for humanitarian aid and medical support
Support organizations providing critical assistance
Amplify the stories and voices of Palestinians
Let's Stand Together❤️🩹
In solidarity with the people of Palestine, I urge you to share this post, educate yourself on the crisis, and join me in advocating for peace and human rights.

"Madiba (Mandela) gave us a mandate to work for peace, justice, and human rights worldwide, and he always considered Palestinian liberation to be key to achieving a just and free world for all. How can any of us speak credibly of universal human rights and the international rule of law when we permit brutality and occupation to continue for decades?"
"As members of one human family, we have an ethical duty to speak out against these injustices in our own circles of influence. We can wield power through our own individual and community activism. With our votes and protests, we can – and must – demand accountability from our political leaders.
Here is what we must demand. First, additional humanitarian land routes urgently need to be opened to meet the overwhelming need for life-saving aid. The safety of aid deliveries must be guaranteed at all times."
"Second, world leaders must use military and financial leverage to compel Israel to cease its violations of international law and comply with the ICJ’s orders."
"Third, decision-makers must provide full financial and political support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees."
"If this fundamental truth does not prevail on political leaders and ordinary citizens, we will continue to forsake generations of innocent children."
"Gazans are haunted by post-traumatic stress disorder and grief, and more than one million children are in dire need of psycho-social support. The latest devastation adds to the suffering inflicted by Israel’s 18-year-old blockade of Gaza. And in the West Bank, Palestinians face multiple threats, from unconstrained settler violence and forced displacement to the constant threat of arbitrary detention."
"Well over 100,000 Palestinians have been declared killed, injured, or missing over the past six months, and the overwhelming majority are innocent civilians."

We demand an immediate #CeasefireNow. The bloodshed must stop. Innocent lives must be protected.
We urge the international community to take decisive action to end the occupation and establish a just and lasting peace for all. The status quo is unsustainable.
Together, let us raise our voices and demand an end to the violence and injustice. Let us show our solidarity with Palestine and call for a future where all can live in peace and dignity.

And the reason why Israel wants to destroy UNRWA, is because their schools teach Palestine children the true history of Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Israel wants UNRWA to lie to Palestinian children and tell them that Palestinians all left and never wanted to return to their homes and farms voluntarily — the ridiculous lie that they tell Israel children.
What would you do if someone stole your house & livelihood, killed some of your family, & left the rest of you with nothing, to live in the squalor of a refugee camp? That is what Israel did to over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, over 300,000 in 1967, over 250,000 since 1967, & MORE EVERY YEAR – simply because they are not Jewish. Most of the families in Gaza owned homes & farms where Israeli cities & towns now stand, which Israel literally stole from them. Most even still have their front door keys.

And how can anyone claim that this conflict started on October 7th when between 2000 & Oct 2023, Israeli soldiers & settlers killed nearly 2300 Palestinian children, including 43 children during the 9 months just before Oct 7th (names & details on BTselem.org).
Israel has also imposed a brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid on Palestinians, & a brutal blockade of Gaza since 2005 - both illegal under international law, immoral, & ongoing acts of war.

And when Palestinians have tried to protest peacefully, Israel shoots them in the knees, kills, or at least imprison & beat them. And now our government is actually helping Israel commit genocide. According to our own U.S. military, Israel has killed OVER 25,000 WOMEN & CHILDREN in the past 5 months: https://lnkd.in/gtQtw9zc
Can you imagine how big a pile of 25,000 dead mothers & children would be? Well our taxes are helping pay for it & it’s getting bigger every day.
Israel has also orphaned over 30,000 children, & has demolished the homes of around 1 million children, making them homeless during winter. And Israel is still blocking aid to these children, KILLING THEM WITH STARVATION, DEHYDRATION, & DISEASE, in addition to U.S. supplied bombs.

There’s a reason why this couldn’t be a scene in a horror movie.
And it’s not because the images aren’t horrific.
It’s because you just don’t see such depraved, unconscionable things as multiple attacks on a refugee camp, including an elementary school, in the movies.
At the march in solidarity with #Palestine today in San Francisco, a compelling speaker with the Middle East Children’s Alliance’s (MECA) argued we owe thanks to Palestinians in #Gaza for awakening the world.
We do owe a debt of gratitude. But it’s one the rest of the world will NEVER be able to pay. And it’s debt that was never offered to us; life and freedom have been taken FROM Palestinians, again and again, for over a century.
I suppose the takeaway is we owe it to all Palestinians, and ourselves, to stay vigilant, grounded, focused, open-hearted, active, and engaged until all people are free. And if means we do this as long as we’re here, then so be it.
