Design for Impact: Creating Solutions that Leave a Lasting Mark In today’s world, the role of interior design and architecture has evolved beyond aesthetics. It has become a driving force in shaping the way we live, work, and interact. The concept of “Design for Impact” is rooted in the belief that every design decision can and should contribute to positive change. This approach focuses on creating spaces that do more than just serve a functional purpose—they resonate with the people who use them, fostering productivity, well-being, and a sense of connection. The goal is to create solutions that have a meaningful, long-lasting impact on both the environment and the community. Design for impact isn’t just a trend—it’s a philosophy that challenges designers to create with intention and purpose. From sustainability and human well-being

⭐️ Embracing Transformation 🤗 In the dynamic pallette of interior design, the only constant is change. As an interior architect, I've come to understand that our philosophy must evolve alongside shifting trends, technologies, and societal needs. Gone are the days when design was solely about aesthetics; today, it's about creating spaces that prioritize wellbeing, sustainability, and human connection. With each passing year, I've witnessed a profound transformation in the way we perceive and approach design. From the minimalist trends of the past to the current emphasis on biophilic design and holistic wellbeing, the evolution of our craft has been nothing short of remarkable. But it's not just about following the latest trends; it's about embracing change as an opportunity for growth and innovation. As interior architects, we're tasked with not only staying ahead of the curve but also redefining it. This means constantly seeking new ideas, experimenting with unconventional materials, and challenging traditional norms. But perhaps the most important aspect of this evolution is the recognition that design is not just about creating beautiful spaces; it's about improving lives. Whether it's through the incorporation of sustainable materials, the promotion of inclusivity, or the creation of spaces that inspire creativity and productivity, our ultimate goal is to make a positive impact on the world around us. So let us embrace this era of transformation with open minds and open hearts. Let us be pioneers of change, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and reimagining the role of design in shaping a better, more sustainable future for all. After a few weeks of what I'd call a "soft launch" into the commercial & institutional #interiordesign space, I wanted to officially update my network that I am serving as editor-in-chief on i+s Magazine - that's interiors + sources, in case you didn't know! (Still working on LEDs Magazine - very different audience, though.) 😉 I'm delighted to be working with esteemed editors as part of the architectural & design team at Endeavor Business Media (closely related publications BUILDINGS and Architectural Products), including Robert Nieminen, Janelle Penny, Lauren Brant, and Jeanie Fitzgerald. This is such an exciting time full of possibilities in the A&D space. Yes, there is a lot of concern about open #realestate and the future of commercial buildings. But that's a GOOD thing, in my opinion, because it opens the door to productive conversations about reinventing or reconfiguring those environments to better meet objectives for wellbeing, connection, and sustainability. Between #adaptivereuse of buildings, efforts toward embracing #universaldesign, options for multipurpose spaces, and so much more, there is no end to what the interior design profession can bring to the table. "Design with purpose" is the tagline on i+s for a reason. Far beyond "pretty pictures," i+s seeks to deliver inspiration, solutions, industry insights, and educational support for interior design professionals. If I could do it without hurting myself, I'd be doing this right now... 🤸♀️ I'm far too out of practice, so instead I'll settle for this: 💃 Bookmark https://www.iands.design/ and please reach out with proposed content, notable projects, and innovative products for the design audience.
