Consider Global Heart Care a new international pediatric heart surgery non profit led by Teimour Nasirov, M.D., M.B.A. Congenital heart defects impact children worldwide and in the US (pop 332M), we are fortunate to have the large medical infrastructure (>150 ped heart centers) to address. Other countries such as Ethiopia (pop 120M) are not so fortunate with minimal means (3 ped heart centers) to treat a very long queue of patients. Sadly, many children are not able to receive life saving treatment they need to survive. Global Heart Care is going to work to make a difference. A warm welcome to Teimour Nasirov, M.D., M.B.A., one of our newest Global Health Faculty Fellows. Dr. Nasirov is a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon who has done multiple surgical mission trips in the past and who is committed to elevating standards of cardiac care for children with heart conditions in low- and middle-income countries. "My goal is to help in building local programs and advancing the local expertise in caring for the kids with congenital heart disease worldwide," he says. Welcome, Dr. Nasirov!
