Want to get the best deal from a prospective firm? A good recruiter can help. Recruiters are constantly negotiating advisor deals with industry firms. They know where a firm can be pushed to deliver more and which requests are a waste of political capital. Here’s a case in point: I worked with a large wirehouse producer who wanted what she felt was the less bureacratic, user friendly environment of a smaller, regional firm. The firm made her a nice offer but it included stock that vested over an eight year period. She was older and didn’t want to wait that long. The branch manager didn’t know if that vesting schedule could be changed. But I’d placed a slightly smaller producer at the same firm two years earlier and had been able to get the firm to reduce the vesting period. I’d negotiated that deal with the same national sales manager . We got the stock vesting period shortened to five years with which she was very pleased. Want to know more? Settling makes your boss or owner rich and not you. I have a spot on my team for agency side full desk sales oriented producers that are ready to choose versus settle. You weren’t put here to settle.
