🚨 Regulation of PFAS in Cosmetics 🚨 Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are becoming a significant health concern, and the cosmetics industry makes no exception. With the FDA set to publish a comprehensive report next year as part of the MoCRA legislation, it's crucial to stay ahead of these developments. States are already taking proactive steps to regulate PFAS. For instance, in the last few weeks: 🔹 New Hampshire has introduced draft HB1649, which aims to prohibit the use of PFAS by 2027. 🔹 Connecticut and Vermont have also implemented regulations (SB242 and SB25) banning PFAS use. Although PFAS are not commonly found in cosmetic formulations, traces can still appear due to interactions with packaging materials. This highlights the importance of identifying and eliminating all potential sources of PFAS contamination. Let's work together to ensure our products are safe and compliant with these emerging regulations. Staying informed and proactive is key to maintaining the trust and safety of our consumers. #CosmeticsRegulation #MoCRA #RegulatoryAffairs #PFAS #Compliance

Meet the bad-boy chemical of the week: N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP), CAS# 872-50-4, C5H9NO The EPA proposed new TSCA regulations for NMP that would protect workers and consumers from exposure. "NMP is a widely used solvent in a variety of industrial, commercial, and consumer applications including the manufacture and production of electronics such as semiconductors, polymers, petrochemical products, paints and coatings, and paint and coating removers." NMP is also used in cosmetic and food products like nail polish remover, lotion, hair treatments, acne medication, and food contact materials. However, cosmetic and food ingredients are regulated by the FDA. While NMP is currently allowed by the FDA, that may change given the 2015 EU ban on NMP use in cosmetics and food, as well as, pressure from consumer safety advocates. https://lnkd.in/gyJYbWnN

Did you know some medicines can develop coloured spots? They might look harmless, but it could be a sign of degradation or contamination which can pose health risks. You’ll be amazed to find out that experts in our Swiss GMP laboratory regularly investigate drug discoloration in search of the root cause. In one case, the source was a potentially harmful impurity that came from a specific filling material. We helped our client avoid future incidents by making informed decisions about the supply and quality of the excipient. By ensuring the quality and safety of the medicine, we helped to protect patients. I work with Business Leaders, who are implementing new processes, systems and tools to mitigate risk and advance their business lines.
With #PFAS in the Irish news today, our PFAS Strategy team had a look at all the ways we are supporting clients to prepare for the changes that PFAS will bring and how we are committed to supporting clients on this transition. Some need information and research, some need us to build data processing tools and or access our supply chain optimisation frameworks and others are leveraging of our project management team. Each organisation is at different stages and together we are navigating the complexities of PFAS to ensure we are all ready to be more compliant and sustainable. #PFAS #PFASRegulation #Sustainability #SupplyChainManagement #RegulatoryCompliance #InnovationInAction
