Sustainable Food Education; Organic, Sustainable, Fairly Traded Fruits, Vegetables & Herbs and Local Supply Chain Development, Innovative Marketing
I've been stuck in Dallas for 24 hours due to airport and weather woes - by Thursday I will put out a more detailed crop report for Crespo Organic and remind everyone that February and March will be extremely difficult with less fruit available, mostly because of the damage the heavy wind in late December did to blooms and early setting fruit- but the market will be Frenzied with a capital F because the shortage or gaps Mexico will have is seriously exacerbated by the lack of Peruvian fruit on the market- normally there is A LOT of Peruvian fruit so Mexico has time to increase volume. This is not the case and a lack of fruit for months makes everyone mango hungry. The pressure will be incredibly intense and prices likely higher than I have ever seen them. The good news for our regular program customers - season start to season finish kind of folks- we have fruit and we have your back. Most big programs are being priced for April onward FYI. Everything has to change this early season. there is always good news- and we have fruit- pretty good supplies of fruit - we are after all the #MangoExperts Roberto gives us a sneak peak at the first organic Ataulfos being picked and packed as we speak and Tommy's will come as well - soon. Stay tuned. https://lnkd.in/gfBfm5uy

That’s correct! Italy is indeed known for its rich diversity of olive trees, with over 538 cultivars. These cultivars, a term derived from Latin meaning ‘cultivated variety’, each produce their own unique variety of olives. Most of these olives are used for oil production, but some are also suitable for direct consumption and are known as table olives. These table olives are often enjoyed for their distinct flavor and texture. The process of extracting oil from the olives is known as percolation. It’s a special process that ensures the rich, flavorful oil is efficiently extracted from the olive paste produced by crushing the olives. It’s fascinating how each cultivar can produce such distinct flavors and characteristics in their olives and resulting oil. This diversity is part of what makes Italian olive oil so prized around the world! 😊 https://lnkd.in/dP5xFNuA

Did you know that the AROMA is the first thing you determine the quality of extra virgin olive oil by? If it doesn’t have a pleasant, fresh smell you instantly know it’s NOT #ExtraVirgin. If it’s somehow off…musty, woody, winey… it’s an indication of critical defects, a result of improper harvesting, production or handling. ZERO #organoleptic defects are allowed in #EVOO and it’s assessed by a professional panel of tasters. If #OliveOil has NO AROMA be assured it’s not extra virgin, no exceptions here. That’s why I called my shop Aroma di Olio 🌿

Poggiolecci has received the top prize from the Slow Food panel for its OliVi Forte organic extra virgin olive oil: Grande Olio Slow. We are so proud to be receiving this amazing recognition of our hard work and the work of our press, FRANTOIO ROSSI . It is all the more special at it is a monocultivar or single-variety olive oil made with only our Frantoio olives, from the young trees that we planted in 2005 but of which many had to be cut to the bone or replaced in 2019 after 3 nights of frost in February 2018 killed them. This is a heirloom variety from Tuscany, all our trees are also certified IGP Toscana and the oil is certified organic and cold extraction, which is no simple thing when you harvest in a changing climate when it is still summer with 30 degrees outside. The olive oil is extracted within 12 hours of harvest to guarantee freshness and is also filtered at the end of the extraction process to ensure the quality remains for longer, but it also means we have to sacrifice on quantity. #evoo #topquality #organic #biologique #biologico #hautecouture #oliveoil #firstprize #slow #slowlife #tuscany #madeinitaly #heirloom #sustainable
