Sharing Hands A Respite Experience’s Post

Exactly one year ago, on February 6, 2023, Türkiye and Syria were hit by severe earthquakes, which killed over 59,000 people and destroyed more than 680,000 homes. Many displaced families whose houses were not damaged remained afraid to return. In collaboration with engineering non-profit @miyamotorelief, @habitatforhumanity assessed over 3,000 undamaged or lightly damaged buildings, supporting almost 44,000 people. Self-recovery-focused materials were shared with displaced communities to help them understand how engineers determined their homes were safe to return to. SMP Alliance CR Civil Engineering Today started the Birmingham sleep out. Tonight will be cold and wet and to raise awareness of homelessness and to understand the impact of homelessness and deprivation, some CR Civil Engineering employees will sleep rough. Please donate to help them reach target and support homelessness, especially supporting young people. Young people have different issues and needs to adults, so there are many reasons why they can become homeless. It's often because it's not safe for them to stay at home, or family life has become too hard.  Homelessness, no matter how short, can have long-term and life-changing effects on those who experience it. Issue 6, Brakpan's Voice. In the last couple of weeks, I have been part of several projects. Through it all, two things were highlighted. Team spirit and cooperation. We can have all the numbers we want, but if we do not work together, then numbers are irrelevant. Numbers can split, it can divide and even be subtracted, and the project gets lost in hurt and confusion. If we do not act like one loaf of bread, we can not defeat the enemy. Last month I kicked off a monthly series where I’d share an important cause to me personally and resources to support it (if you wanted to). This month I’m going to discuss poverty and homelessness in my childhood city of Fresno, CA. Fresno is California’s 5th largest city and the home to most of the countries agricultural economy…yet, it’s one of the most impoverished places in the USA. It has a rich culture and very diverse population with only 25% being non-hispanic white, and the other 75% split up between a melting pot of ethnicities from Mexican to Hmong to Black and more! One of my favorite things about growing up in the Central Valley was being immersed in so many different cultures and experiences daily. But sadly, 23% of Fresno’s residents are considered to live in poverty, according to the USA’s federal definition of being a family of 4 making less than $26k/yr. This rate of poverty is almost double the national average and 1.5x the rest of California. Since 2022, homelessness in the area has increased by 7%. It’s getting bad. So with that - I recommend donating or volunteering for Poverello House! They are an emergency shelter for homeless in Fresno CA and also offer other resources like job assistance, food services and more. Project: Manoa Borehole, Mwatate Taita-Taveta Confirmed with high salinity, the project comprises a borehole, a pumphouse, and a 100m3 steel tank located 1.5 km away from the borehole at the market center. This project serves the larger Manoa community that comprises churches, schools, and village residents. Mainly for domestic and animal husbandry, the project serves humanity. This is a project at the lowest level (village) of the water value chain and since water is a devolved system, its management is largely dependent on the village management of the water project. This is a success story where the community donated land for the projects and provides security as this serves all. Water Resources Strategic Planning (WRSP) is a key county policy document that would guide the conservation, distribution, and management of key water installations. WATER IS LIFE AND LIFE IS WATER.

2023 Activity Statistics of the Team Even through the Christmas and New Year period, Exmoor Search and Rescue are always on call to help the Missing and Vulnerable. Here’s a few Stats of the team’s activity through the year just gone. 🔺In 2023 ESRT had 47 callouts totalling 143hrs 10m. 🔺Callouts had an average duration of 3hrs 2m. 🔺On average, incidents required the team to travel 40 km from base. 🔺Our team had 153 training exercises totalling 877 hrs 58m in duration, from Casualty Care to Crag, Water to Search Management; as well as the whole team core training. 🔺The team supported 111 events totalling 364hrs 3m in duration, from talks, to mountain bike events; to shows and fundraisers. 🔺Here’s wishing all our team members, trainees, supporters and friends a happy and safe 2024. #volunteers #exmoorsearchandrescue #savinglives #teamwork #Somerset #NorthDevon

This allows authorities to find people quickly and easily in case of an emergency. 🚨 ELMs were created by SharedGeo, a nonprofit organization. The signs consist of a blue background and the USNG coordinate format that determines the exact location. ELMs are designed to be easily visible and readable and are typically made of durable materials.
