Here's a great article about a variety of topics, including new lawyers and providing a path for online graduates to practice in Indiana in order to meet the needs of clients. What especially stands out is the positivity about the new lawyers at the firm being highlighted. #LawSchool https://lnkd.in/g_MBaZa3 Also, our dean Martin Pritikin is interviewed.

U.S. News released its best law school rankings this week. Once again, the rankings testify to the incredible momentum at Regent Law. We jumped 17 spots this year. And we’ve risen 34 places in the past two years and 39 in the past three. That puts us among the three fasting rising schools in the nation. We’ve risen farther and faster than almost anyone thought possible. But at Regent Law, we prioritize our mission over rankings. We don’t expect U.S. News to measure the fruit we value most. It’s rewarding to see U.S. News recognize our success. But it’s even better to know we’re doing it while remaining true to our distinctly Christian approach to legal education. We’re more committed than ever to creating a Christ-centered community devoted to truth, servant leadership, discipleship, and advocacy. God is blessing our faithfulness to those commitments. Thank you to those of you who have prayed for the school, supported the school financially, invested in our students and our mission, and represented the school as alumni. Your efforts over many years allow us to enjoy the incredible momentum we celebrate today. So, keep praying, and keep investing in our school and our students. I’m grateful to all of you who worked so hard to prepare this soil over many years—and glad to have shown up just in time for the harvest. The fire is burning bright. Together, let’s fan it into flame. If you'd like to partner with what's happening at Regent Law, use https://buff.ly/3VSdRfc #ThankYou #RegentLaw

Twice in the past few months I’ve had the chance to return to my law school and speak with students. And walking the halls of the law school now as a lawyer, I was struck at how different my perception is now. While a law student, I remember seeing alumni at the school and thinking, “look at them, they’ve made it.” Perhaps this impression came from being a first-generation attorney who before going to law school knew only one or two lawyers. But now, seven years later and being one of those lawyers I used to see walking around, it was actually quite humbling. I realized that the gulf that separates law students and lawyers is very small indeed. We’re all just people, after all. There are just a few exams and a few years of life experience between me and those young students who walk the halls today. We even have similar stressors—responsibilities at home and work or school, pending deadlines, worries about cases, trying not to let others down, trying not to let ourselves down. As a law student, I think I expected lawyers to look down on me as a plebe or a wannabe. Thankfully, I met many great lawyers who quickly disabused me of this. Now on the other side I see how wrong that view is. We’re all here together, seeking our way through life. We lawyers find ourselves joined in a common profession and united through shared experiences. But that’s all just window dressing. Each of us is an individual, endowed by our Creator not only with rights but with inherent dignity and unique gifts and talents to contribute. And no professional credential or achievement can change any of that. #LawyersofLinkedIn #LawSchool #LawStudents #Respect

Graduating from law school is just the beginning of your legal journey. The real world demands more beyond knowing the letter of the law. Tamara P. Nash, Chair of the Young Lawyers Division at the American Bar Association, offers great advice to help young lawyers navigate the complexities of the legal profession: -Professionalism Is More Than Rules: It's about embodying moral beliefs like justice and fairness. Seek guidance, be mindful of your actions on social media, and respect everyone you encounter. -Organization Is Key: Stay on top of deadlines, client files, and meetings. Color-code your calendar, keep track of projects, and live by your schedule. Strive for Effective Communication: Set expectations, communicate early and often, and listen attentively. Pay attention to your tone in emails and always proofread before hitting send. -Network with Sincerity: Build genuine connections with people in the legal community. Take advantage of networking opportunities and always follow up after making a connection. -Carve Your Path to Career Advancement: Solicit feedback, keep a record of your accomplishments, and be courteous to everyone you encounter. Look for opportunities that align with your professional goals and leave you fulfilled. Keep learning, growing, and adding to your toolkit with each experience. This summer was challenging—probably the busiest I've ever been—but it was incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to share a few milestones that made it all worthwhile: 📝 I earned an associate position on the Stetson Business Law Review, where I’ll be reviewing and editing thought-provoking work by other associates and writing a comparative comment on how the EU addresses a current U.S. circuit split issue. 💼 After a rigorous tryout process, I accepted an offer to be a member of Stetson’s award-winning Moot Court Board. This year, I will be assisting oralists in a researcher position, where I'll be contributing to research, drafting arguments, and providing counterarguments to prepare for competitions. 📚 I had the privilege of working as a Research Assistant for Professor Palermo, where I researched and briefed circuit precedents for all U.S. circuit courts for his upcoming article focused on corporate/employer liability after a cyberattack. This opportunity gave me insight into his incredible legal scholarship process and provided valuable guidance and mentorship as well. 🇺🇸 I served our veteran population as a Fellow at Stetson University Veterans Law Institute, where I gained a deep understanding of Administrative Law, got published in a journal, and wrote appellate briefs to the VA, advocating for veterans' benefits. Huge thank you to Professor Morgan MacIsaac-Bykowski and Professor Simcox for all the valuable lessons, experience, and mentorship provided. 📖 Lastly, I successfully completed the Secured Transactions course with Professor Christensen. For those who may not know (like I didn’t), summer courses are accelerated, with each class containing about twice as much reading as a fall/spring semester course. This course was challenging, but it sharpened my understanding of crucial commercial law concepts. I also learned that I love the code! UCC! 👨👩👦 Of course, I couldn't have done any of this without my amazing wife, Andrea, who held down the fort and is an incredible mother to our toddler, Henry. She supported me when things got busy and kept me focused on my "Why." This summer pushed me to my limits, but it also reminded me why I’m passionate about the law. Here’s to the next chapter—a full year in Madrid! #lawschool #businesslaw #mootcourt #legalresearch #securedtransactions #StetsonLaw

Alumni Spotlight /// '21L Thuan Tran is an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Fairfax County. Discuss your career path and how it led you to working at the Fairfax Commonwealth Attorney’s Office? From the moment I chose law as a career path, I knew I wanted to be a trial lawyer. I had done mock trial in college, which was a ton of fun, and doing mock trial in law school solidified my desire to be in the courtroom. I spent some time in the private sector at a firm, which did give me some courtroom time, including a couple of trials where I made arguments as a second-chair. However, that experience was more so the exception than the rule for a young associate. When the Fairfax Commonwealth Attorney’s Office reached out to me on LinkedIn, I was a bit hesitant at first because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to “re-tool” into criminal law from civil litigation. But eventually I decided to interview, and it was the perfect decision. What advice do you have for prospective law students? A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there. While it can be pleasant when we have a plan and things unfold in the ways that we want it, it is arguably more important to be flexible and adaptable when things don’t go according to plan. The best time for growth and learning opportunities happens in situations when we are inevitably forced into a scenario that seems scary and uncomfortable because we don’t know how it will turn out. The best things in my life came when I wasn’t expecting them or even looking for them. Because of that, I learned to be open to life’s events as they unfold and just roll with the punches. https://lnkd.in/e7x-PNKK
