The new extension of the IGS Augustfehn in Apen, Lower Saxony, combines innovative school architecture with contemporary educational theory: instead of rigidly separated corridors and classrooms, the modern concept relies on differentiated learning landscapes. The result: a bright, transparent and state-of-the-art atmosphere with a wide range of possible uses. The combination of the movable wall systems Variflex and Variflex Glass from Dorma Hüppe enables fast and flexible adaptation to differentiated forms of learning. The opaque wall elements complement the glass elements perfectly and ensure a welcoming interior design. A two-storey extension with classrooms and specialist subject rooms, teachers' areas as well as a cafeteria with teaching kitchen was built on a floor space of 2,350m². The basic idea of the team of architects from ‘Simon-Exner-Kersten GmbH & Co. KG’ in Oldenburg was to create an open ‘cluster structure’ in which individual units are combined into a larger area. Cavendish School Library Refurbishment A project designed to inspire young minds and create a welcoming, functional space tailored to students' needs. This refurbishment was unique as we actively involved students in the design process, capturing their creative ideas to craft a space they can proudly call theirs.
