One topic that I am always passionate about is Company Culture, especially for post military service and fear falling into a or another toxic culture.
Two of the questions that I was asked while I answered questions while on the panel were:
1. What is the culture like at BTS?
2. What are a few of the key attributes to be successful at BTS?
I speak from the heart as I answer these two questions and always provide my own personal experiences.
I used to drive 87 miles on way to get to the office for almost three years, and I looked forward to it. The CEO, COO and Staff are genuine and sincere, always happy to see them.
I was amazed when the CEO and COO followed up with me about our daughter's orchestra concert to see how she did and ask to see the pictures and videos.
Once I was asked the key attributes question, I immediately thought back to how genuine the company is.
In our line of work, what other attributes will help you stand out and succeed.
a. Honesty & Integrity
b. Sincerity
c. Heart
Generally, we all know the "KSA's" of our job. (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) These are always a given.
Honesty and Integrity are important to lay a bridge and build a foundation of trust within the community, companied and colleagues.
The leadership always appreciates sincere answers, not just "lip service". They do not believe in Band-Aids for problems and issues, they want what is right, a way ahead, and to ensure that everyone is "good to go" and has what is required and needed.
We all can teach, train, and learn new things; but you cannot teach someone Heart. Putting your heart into your work will set you apart and put you above the pack.
Truly proud of this Company, and Yes, we were born and forged before the K-Pop band. We are the originals, the "OG's". 🕺
Thanks again Rey Domingo and The KEY Community for having me on at The Key Con.
Facing cultural anxiety can be challenging, but here are six powerful strategies to conquer it:
1. Educate Yourself: Dive deep into the culture to gain a profound understanding of its customs and values.
2. Stay Open-Minded: Embrace differences and approach new experiences with unwavering curiosity rather than judgment.
3. Practice Patience: Allow yourself the necessary time to adapt and thrive in unfamiliar environments.
4. Build Connections: Proactively engage with locals or others in similar situations to seek support and valuable insights.
5. Focus on Commonalities: Identify shared human experiences that transcend cultural boundaries, fostering connection and understanding.
6. Stay Self-Compassionate: Acknowledge that feeling out of place is natural and remember that successful adaptation takes time and perseverance.
Game of the week: DiversiDare
How much do you dare to share about who you are?
It's not about being offended or challenged, but we often tend to avoid some critical areas of culture in meetings, training sessions, and in professional and educational contexts more generally.
Whether this is driven by the “fear” of being judged, we often find ourselves holding back from discussing important aspects of our identity, including our political and religious beliefs, our cultural backgrounds, or even our sense of humor. This avoidance can emanate from the concern that our experiences, stories, or views might be misunderstood or lead to negative “evaluations” by others or result in uncomfortable conflict.
But we should bear in mind that engaging in these discussions requires vulnerability and courage, as it involves exposing parts of ourselves that we may usually keep private. Nevertheless, it is this openness that can foster trust and mutual respect and challenge us to confront our biases and assumptions.
This is why, questioning who we are and sharing our cultural perspectives should be seen as an opportunity for enrichment rather than a risk to be “negatively” perceived or evaluated.
If you want to create a safe space for stepping into these “touchy and untouchable” areas, then join us on July 4 for a diversophy game session on how to establish effective strategies and means for the continued exploration of “sensitive” culture and identity talks.
Make Yourself Seen and Heard: The Power of Visibility
In a world flooded with noise, it’s easy to feel invisible. Yet, embracing visibility is a powerful act that can transform not just our own lives but also those around us. When you make yourself seen and heard, you amplify your voice and share your unique story, paving the way for connection and understanding.
Visibility fosters authenticity. When you express your thoughts and feelings, you invite others to do the same, creating a safe space for dialogue. This exchange can spark inspiration, innovation, and change—both personally and collectively.
Moreover, being visible can empower others who may feel marginalized or voiceless. Your presence can validate their experiences, encouraging them to step into their own light. Remember, every time you share your truth, you’re contributing to a tapestry of diverse voices that enrich our communities.
So, take that bold step forward. Whether it’s through writing, speaking, or simply being your true self, embrace the power of visibility. Let your unique perspective shine; the world is waiting to hear from you!
