I think we need to start helping our clients to understand the true value we can all offer to schemes, partnerships have to be a true two way street. Our advice can save hundreds of thousands of pounds on schemes, if asked and engaged at the right time. Our profit margins are not designed to offer a risk element to our works. The majority of the time we win work because we are already the lowest bidder, it’s time this type of practice came to an end, or an offer of significant win bonus, then we can make informed decisions. Great post Ian.

This year we have reviewed several framework opportunities with RPs. Two of these frameworks we would have bid for, however the T&Cs included a clause that all pre-contract work was at risk. This doesn’t sit comfortably with a strategy of creating a sustainable business with high service delivery performance. Pre contract periods include a high volume of resource, often reviewing commercial conditions that protect millions of pounds for our clients. I would be interested to understand views on such clauses. It would also be useful to hear from Homes England. Its well versed that we have an affordable homes shortage, does this approach to supply chain engagement really lead to best outcomes and value for money.
