That's a lot of steps, I know… So, let's walk you through the first step of the infrastructure to ensure your success: 1) Deliverability Let's take a look at what typical businesses does: Most businesses try to scale vertically They set up one domain and send thousands of emails through one inbox (if their providor even allows them) And the result: They land in the spam Inbox This is because email providers are not dumb. They know when sending volume is not human, so they set up perimeters on how many emails you can send per inbox, and if these guidelines are not followed, They will block your domains & inboxes and even put everyone in your company on a blacklist you so that no one can never send emails from that address again. The proper way to set up a cold email infrastructure is to scale horizontally Making multiple domains and inboxes per domain, to spread deliverability evenly across every inbox. This makes the sending volume look human to the email providers and prevents you from going to spam. We will set up DMARC, DKIM, SPF records on top of warming up your domains to further ensure that your emails never see the inside of the spam folder. Not only that, but to prevent your emails to be marked by spam, we will include spintax to your emails so every email we send is entirely unique. Catch-All Email vs Valid Email: what's the difference? Here's a SIMPLE explanation 👇 1°) Catch-All Email: - email address that may or may not exist - emails sent to such addresses can potentially fallback to a generic inbox (thus "catch-all", all emails end up in the same inbox --> you can see it as a safety net) - many catch-all email addresses will still bounce if it doesn't exist 2°) Valid Email: - an email that has been confirmed to exist (different methods possible to do that) - using only valid emails protect your email deliverability - as seen above, a "valid" email can also be "catch-all" since those 2 properties are distinct. However, many catch-all emails never get validated since it's very hard to do, so you end up never knowing which emails are valid/invalid 3°) Key points for your cold outreach: - "Classic" email verification tools (Zerobounce, Neverbounce etc.) are not able to validate catch-all emails --> which is why they are usually in a separate category called "risky", "catch-all" etc. - Findymail is one of the few tools able to validate catch-all email addresses meaning it can classify them between "valid" and "invalid" - You should only send to catch-all emails that have been validated to protect your deliverability, otherwise you might be sending to invalid emails. About 30% of businesses use catch-all emails, so don't sleep on them! Like the rest, it's just a matter of validating them - they're just slightly harder to validate than other emails. Everyone in cold email outreach say you need : 10+ domains & 20+ inboxes to stay out of spam. But almost nobody shows you exactly how. So I will. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how anybody can setup a cold email infrastructure with 0 experience. Send 30,000+ emails a month + stay out of spam. Let’s say your company is an oil company in Texas, called Lone Star Gas & Oil. 1️⃣ Step 1 : Choose 10 Different Domains. Let’s say your main domain is @lonestargasoil.com. We want to choose domains like 📍 [findlonestargasnoil.com] 📍 [lonestaroil.com] 📍 [trylonestargasnoil.com] 📍 [getlonestaroil.co] 📍 [visitlonestargas.pro] .coms appear more official, but can be more expensive. Mix and match with others if the price is too high. 2️⃣ Step 2 : Pick A Domain Registrar. Time to buy the domains you chose. You can buy from any registrar : 📍 GoDaddy 📍 Squarespace 📍 NameCheap 📍 IONOS 📍 Porkbun - ⭐️ our choice! We personally use Porkbun thanks to the low prices. But we mix and match as well. 3️⃣ Step 3 : Move Domains To Private SMTP Servers. SMTP servers are like the UPS or Fedex of emails. They make sure your emails arrive where they need to go. Some SMTP Options : 📍 Outlook 📍 GSuite 📍 Inframail - ⭐️ our choice! 📍 Mailreef - ⭐️ our choice! We use Inframail & Mailreef, because of price & DNS. SPF, DKIM, DMARC : super annoying to setup manually. Services like Inframail & Mailreef will do that for you. 4️⃣ Step 4 : Setup 2~3 Inboxes for Each Domain. Set up 2~3 inboxes with your SDR's names. For example, it would be something like 📍 john@lsgasnoil.com 📍 jane@lsgasnoil.com 5️⃣ Step 5 : Forward All Responses To Master Inbox. Imagine digging through 30 inboxes every morning looking for any interested responses. Sounds terrible. That’s why you want to forward all responses to your master inbox, which shows you the response from all inboxes nicely in one place. 6️⃣ Step 6 : Hook Up All Inboxes To Your Sequencer. Almost ready to start sending some emails! 📍 Smartlead 📍 Instantly.ai Are the dynamic duo of sequencers. Each have their pros and cons. Instantly is more beginner friendly with their UI/UX. 6 steps to revive a dead email list... while segmenting & cleaning your list at the same time. If you already have an email list but haven't emailed them for a couple of months, Follow this 6-step process to revive those "seemingly" dead leads: STEP 1: Create a new lead magnet. It should contain something your readers will want to know about but can't find elsewhere. STEP 2: Create a new email list with 2 or more welcome emails. STEP 3: Set up a landing page (where they'll opt in to get the lead magnet). STEP 4: Send a "we're breaking up" email to the list asking if they're still interested in {insert "interest" here}. The interest would depend on what they signed up for when they joined your list. You want to build a theme around this email using teasers from your lead magnet. Then use the lead magnet to incentivize them to join your new email list. Ask them to "click the link" in the email to access the lead magnet. Otherwise, you'll be deleting their details in the next 7 days. Bonus tip: since this is your first email to them in a long while... Start by reminding them what they signed up for & when. Then mention the option to unsubscribe. Otherwise, some who have forgotten might mark your email as spam, and that'll hurt you in many ways. Also, when you send this email, expect to see some unsubscribes. That's normal. STEP 5: Send 2 more follow-up emails (on days 4 & 7). Make the subject lines catchy & curiosity-driven to get their attention. Remind them that you're about to delete their records. And ask them to join your new email list if they want to get the lead magnet. For those who have already joined the new email list... Just add a PS in your follow-up emails telling them to ignore the email if they've done so. STEP 6: On day 7, send a "final warning" email to this list... Wait till the next day (day 8)... Then segment the dead email list by filtering for those who clicked any of the links in the 3 emails you sent. For the inactive subscribers—those who didn't click any of the links and still refused to unsubscribe 🤷♂️ (something's wrong with them)... Yank them off your list! No sense in wasting resources on such people. Plus, it will improve your delivered/open rates & decrease future unsubscribes & spam figures. By the way, some subscribers might have changed their email addresses while you were on "self-imposed exile" (weren't you??? 😅). So this 6-step strategy will also allow them to update their email records so you don't keep sending emails to inactive email addresses. If you found this helpful, feel free to implement it. P.S. Avoid these 3 cold email “shortcuts” if you care about your deliverability: BACKGROUND Most people who are new to cold email have no patience. They want to sign up for a cold email sending tool like Emailchaser, and start blasting emails on day one. The problem with this mindset is that it causes people to take “shortcuts” that result in their emails going to spam. Below are three “shortcuts” that you need to avoid when sending cold emails: 1. Setting up email accounts through resellers A reseller is a certified partner authorized by Google or Microsoft to re-sell, implement, and support their solutions. You can buy email accounts through resellers. Resellers are less expensive and faster, since they handle the setup for you. The problem with using resellers is that they often sell to people that send a high volume of spam email. This means that when Google or Microsoft inevitably blacklists a reseller, all of the domains and email accounts on their plan/tier are affected. If you use resellers, then your entire cold email infrastructure could be taken down overnight. 2. Using warm up tools Most people falsely believe that email warm up tools improve deliverability. They think that they can skip the important parts of cold email (lead list relevancy, copy, infrastructure etc) and send a high volume of low quality emails if they simply use a warm up tool. The main motivation for this thought-process is that it’s difficult and time consuming to learn how to do cold email correctly. People don’t want to spend the time learning cold email, and instead want to believe that there is a “shortcut” (warm up tool) that allows them to bypass the learning curve. Doctors and lawyers spend many years training before they become qualified. Why do people think that they can run a successful cold email campaign with zero knowledge? Using cheap email providers (like Zoho) Google Workspace (Gmail) and Microsoft 365 (Outlook) have the best deliverability since their email server IP addresses are the most trusted globally. Cheaper ESPs (like Zoho) have terrible deliverability, since spammers always use cheap options. As a result, Gmail and Outlook are more likely to place your cold emails in spam if you send them from a less trusted email server (like Zoho). TAKEAWAY There are no shortcuts in cold email.
