Yesterday, we marked the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Things are getting better, but it's vital to recognize the road ahead is still long to achieve equality in the realms of technology and leadership. So today, I am declaring Women’s Week on my profile, and I will talk to you a little bit about women in tech. First of all, let's glance at some stark realities that still exist:
📉 Leadership Gap: Women hold only 25% of leadership roles in tech. This disparity highlights the need for more inclusive policies and support systems to ensure women can rise through the ranks on equal footing with their male counterparts.
👩💻 Gender Gap in STEM Fields: Women constitute just 28% of the workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers, underlining systemic barriers in these fields.
💼 Wage Gap: On average, women in the tech industry earn 84% of what men earn for similar roles. This reflects broader societal issues of gender-based valuation of work and the urgent need for transparent, equitable salary structures.
While we may not aim for an exact 50/50 distribution in workforce and leadership roles, minimizing the existing gaps is crucial. So, how do we tackle this challenge? At Atomic, we frequently address this issue, considering diverse needs — from enhancing facilities to actively pursuing the recruitment of women for roles traditionally dominated by men. I am also moved by the collective dedication to this cause, not just from women but across our entire team.
💡 Do you have any other ideas for tech companies to encourage the presence of women at every level?
