"The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission will continue to determine whether an applicant is a #PBI by undertaking a #holistic analysis, taking account of the aims (or objects or purposes) it is set up to achieve, and the way it achieves those aims through its activities. The #ACNC accepts that a PBI can engage in some #preventative activities, dependent on the particular circumstances. The overriding consideration will be, is there a sufficient connection between a PBI’s purpose and activities and the #benevolent ends it pursues, as was the case in Hunger Project." #decisionimpactstatement #charity #publicbenevolentinstitution #overridingconsideration #sufficientconnection
The ACNC has published a new Decision Impact Statement following an Administrative Appeals Tribunal determination on a matter brought by Equality Australia Ltd. The charity had applied to the ACNC to be registered with the ‘Public Benevolent Institution’ (PBI) subtype. Read more: https://ow.ly/YaAM50Q2SMu

The Commissioning Process Disadvantages Small Charities Our Regional Manager Gary Beharrell speaks with Civil Society Media Ltd about how small charities are at the mercy of the commissioning process. "While the whole commissioning process has been designed in a way that disadvantages small charities, it can be improved through more collaborative working. "Many of the commissioning processes I hear about are complex, with mountains of paperwork, and short timeframes for completing applications. "Larger organisations have the resources to hire teams dedicated to bidding on these types of contracts. "Not the small local organisation who are at capacity already, everyone involved in delivery and no one to complete the required paperwork for commissioners." R U OK Day Today is R U OK Day – a day about starting conversations that can change a life. Organised by the Year 8 Student Representative Council, Tara Senior School students and staff came together to talk, share, and support each other. R U OK Badges and ice blocks were sold to raise money for the organisation. R U OK? You don’t need to be an expert to reach out, just a good friend and listener. Have a conversation using these four steps: 1. Ask R U OK? 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check in #RUOK #TaraSeniorSchool
