I’m constantly reminded that as a proud employee-owned business we’re part of a movement that is gaining significant traction. Much like the BCorp movement, where businesses are required to prove their commitment to the environment, the EO movement requires us to prove our commitment to our people. And in doing so, we create an atmosphere in which humanity and empathy are paramount. What we need now, as a movement of people-positive businesses, is to start building this sentiment into our brands. To champion the people who make up our businesses, communicate the strength of our relationships, and significantly improve the way we talk about our shared values. When we talk to or work with other employee-owned businesses we feel an immediate connection. A gut feeling that they get us and we get them. And, whilst we still have to prove the value we bring, our competence and expertise, this positive starting point is becoming increasingly important. We now live in a world where showing commitment to a cause is becoming more than a secondary reason for buying. More than just table stakes.
