Fun Fact Friday: let's talk about Red Wine! Did you know that it's not supposed to stain your teeth or give you a red ring around your lips? When it does, you can thank Mega Purple, originally a color-correcting additive. Many mass-produced (and even some smaller wineries) will quietly include Mega Purple in order to keep their product looking and sometimes tasting the same year after year. The FDA allows this additive, calling it "safe", and it does not need to be disclosed to you, the consumer. But at the end of the day, it is a processed food additive, and high in sugar. If you're into that - you do you. Scout and Cellar wines are ALWAYS: Sustainably grown in healthy soil. Include NO artificial processing aids or added sugars. Saying that wine is “food-friendly” is a boring cliché, but in the case of rosé, it’s not entirely wrong. A wine is versatile because it falls between the extremes of red and white ; less intense than a big tannic red that breaks the mouth, but with more depth than a super light white. What is wine exactly? Wine has been around the world for over 7000 years and is made from just 2 basic ingredients, yeast and grape juice. By far the majority of all wine is made from the juice of the grape, although some wines do use the skin, this mainly color the wine( rose for example). How is wine made? Yeast is the main ingredient needed for fermentation and yeast is what transforms the grapes into wine. Just as a point of interest, there are actually wild yeast spores just being carried all over the place by the wind. To make wine you just need an open container of grape juice, patience and time. The result however, wouldn't be very pleasant to taste.

Hot Mulled Wine. It's warm, aromatic, and perfect for the holiday season. **Hot Mulled Wine Recipe:** **Ingredients:** - 1 bottle of red wine (750 ml, preferably a dry variety) - 1/4 cup brandy (optional) - 1/4 cup honey or sugar - 2 cinnamon sticks - 8 whole cloves - 2 star anise - 1 orange, sliced into rounds - Additional orange slices for garnish **Instructions:** 1. In a large pot, combine all ingredients. Heat gently over low to medium heat. Avoid boiling. 2. Simmer for 20-25 minutes. The flavors should infuse, and the wine should be steaming hot. 3. Strain the mulled wine and discard the solid spices and orange slices. 4. Serve hot in mugs or heatproof glasses. Garnish each glass with a fresh orange slice and a cinnamon stick, if desired. Now, relax with it. 🍷
