I love this article. It shows the value and importance of social-emotional skills that are necessary for children, but don't always receive. As a therapist and life coach, I often see what happens when children don't receive the skills they need. Book your consultation today at https://lnkd.in/gqpZbpS5

The statistics paint a poignant picture. Studies reveal that strong social skills contribute to self-respect, happiness, and healthy friendships, while their absence limits problem-solving abilities and pushes children towards negative behaviors. Further research highlights the significant impact of holistic intervention on educational stress, depression, and anxiety in young individuals. I help mid-career professionals overcome uncertainty, frustration and monotony so they have greater success and satisfaction in their careers. Career Coaching | Personal Development | Life Coaching I
My wife works in early childhood education, and the overarching theme in NZ's early childhood education is 'free play'. Education experts swear by the efficacy of allowing children's minds to run free rather than binding them to a set method. The growing global popularity of the free play method adopted in kindergartens and primary schools is a testament to the benefits of thinking outside a fixed structural framework. The minds of adults too need to have free rein now and then. Unfortunately, things don't always happen that way. You get tied to a certain framework, and you're expected to follow that to the T. That's what standard operating procedures are for, right? When you hit a snag, the brain attuned to operating in a 'fixed' manner struggles to come up with ideas. 'Thinking outside the box' becomes a foreign concept for a brain trained to work inside the box! Hence why some problems appear unsolvable. Working with an unbiased and non-judgemental coach helps immensely in breaking the stalemate and achieving solutions to challenges you might find insurmountable working on your own. Think of your coaching sessions as opportunities to let your brain enjoy 'free play'. Unrestrained by procedures, you will find it easier to come up with answers to questions you hitherto found unanswerable. If you wish to experience a session of letting your brain roam free, DM me to book a time. No charge, no obligation. #coaching #career #lifecoaching

Thanks so much to Hibernia College for inviting me to open their Health & Well-Being online conference last week. My presentation was titled 'Placing Well-Being at the Heart of Teaching' and there were around 400 student teachers in attendance. I focused on the importance of prioritising well-being in the classroom, through focusing on nurturing positive relationships and promoting emotional regulation. We looked at lots of practical ways to do so, based on my own experience, and as always, underpinned by principles from Positive Psychology. And remembering to practise self-care on a daily basis too. I usually work with in-service teachers, so it was wonderful to get the chance to share these ideas with student teachers just before they embark on their career in the classroom. With so many challenges to children's well-being, it's more important than ever to place it at the heart of teaching. When we do so, children can then reach their potential in other areas, including academics. I opened my presentation with a quote I love from Frederick Douglass - 'It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults'. Those words always remind me of the most important and precious part of my role as teacher - giving children a sense of self-worth and self-belief, so that they can reach their unique potential and flourish and thrive, despite the inevitable challenges of life. Teachers have the power to have such a positive impact on the lives of students - but we need to remember to prioritise well-being first! We can't fix everything, but that shouldn't distract us from doing what we can. #wellbeingineducation #wellbeingfirst #positivepsychology

One month and the experience of being Involve Life keeps moving forward. Along with it, thoughts continue to grow, pondering where we were and where we are heading. Amidst all this reflection, sometimes facing troubles and sometimes joy, finding paths and often wandering to find them, life has kept moving. I have always questioned myself, asked, and sometimes even talked to myself about my old days. Life has taken me on many turns, sometimes leading me astray, but life goes on. I always thought to myself, "I wish I were like them." Whenever I saw such a person, I felt like becoming like them. Seeing someone studying, I wanted to study. Watching someone teach, I wanted to teach. Seeing someone having fun, I wanted to do the same. Thus, observing educated people, I was drawn towards education, and seeing people earning money through labor, I was inclined towards labor. Thinking about how to live life, I was inclined towards livelihood. So life was moving along with many such chapters. With great difficulty, I achieved education and also got involved. But now, with new chapters of life, new teams were formed, and new puzzles emerged. I liked being Involve. Not because the work is good, but because it is about shaping the future of children and their agency, which makes me happy. Along with this, I am getting a chance to understand and know myself better. We all know how important change is. But here, discussions happen on how change will come about, and how important it is to work on it, providing direction. Everyone has their own opinions on social change and its impact on society and the school system. Some have positive views, while others have negative ones. But here, there is a strong effort to understand and develop the fundamental structure within children, for children, from children, and among children. All these things that I have understood are not just my understanding; I am part of the understanding of this society. Life operates on two things: identifying the problem and finding and initiating solutions. Here, both aspects have developed. Understanding what the issues of children are and how we can address them through our program idea, peer learning, to make the path of children's development more educational. Self-Esteem should ideally be based on a broader range of factors, such as your child’s values, abilities, relationships, and character traits. Watch for these instances that could negatively affect your child’s self-esteem. Comparison and Competition: In academic environments where grades are emphasized and students are constantly compared to one another, there can be pressure to perform well. This pressure can sometimes lead to feelings of inadequacy or low self-esteem, especially if a student feels he or she can’t measure up to their peers. Perceived Failure: Poor grades can sometimes be interpreted as a personal failure, leading to feelings of disappointment, shame, or low self-esteem. As a parent, recognize that a single academic setback does not define a person’s worth or potential. BUT, if you notice your child’s grades slipping, it’s important to get to the root cause.
