👀 Curious about the ironic parallels between being a Medical Science Liaison versus being a Medical Affairs recruiter? Both share stronger similarities than you may initially see on the surface… 👀 ▶ Both MSLs and recruiters have to cultivate an innate sense of persistence and perseverance. #Medicalaffairs aspirants it's not all rosy. I've been posting a lot about the pros of medical affairs, but there are cons to everything. The biggest one of them is a lack of #job security. Recently there have been some incidents of #layoffs in the industry. What should you do? Here's my take on this. The #private sector will never give you absolute job security (these days even the #government sector doesn't give that). Solution: - Focus on honing your #skills. If you're best at what you do, you'll be confident of having one or the other job. Both hard and soft skills should be your target. Never get comfortable in your job. - At the risk of repeating myself, I'd say learn to sell yourself. It doesn't matter how good you are if you don't know how to present it. This is true for your appraisal and for your interview. - Even after doing all this, there is not guaranteed job security. You are working for a business which goes through ups and downs. Be ready for the consequences. Above all this, I do come bearing good news. Medical affairs is a sunrise industry. Organisations and the KOLs are realising the importance of medical affairs. There was a recent Bain report on medical affairs which is worth reading. I am also attaching a LinkedIn screenshot about the job market. This is not the first one I've received. All in all, it's a sunrise sector but one closely related to the growth of the business. Just be mindful of this. Did you think of this while deciding that you want to join the industry?
