October marks the beginning of the fourth quarter or the last 90 days of the year. With the holidays on the horizon, it can be easy to sit back and coast to the end of the year. BUT many employers do year-end reviews or have bonuses on the table, so these last three months provide an opportunity to make an impact. So what can you do to close the year out on a high note? Here are a few suggestions. Clean Your Workspace - Clean out your office or desk and get rid of anything you don't need to bring into 2024. Whether you're in the office or you work from home, your space can impact your mindset. Wipe the slate clean and start Q4 with an organized workspace to help motivate you. Now that you've cleaned up your space, treat yourself to a new notebook or a fancy pen to put you in a good mood. Tie Up Loose Ends - Finish all the tasks you've been putting off like filing expenses, time tracking, reporting, etc. Any long-term projects you've kept at the bottom of the list aren't going to finish themselves. Set Your Goals - If you are working for a bonus or incentive, what do you need to get there? Set your end-of-year goals and list out what you can reasonably accomplish in the next few months. Think about what tasks will get you noticed by leadership and make an impact. Now that your workspace is clean you can prominently display these goals and knock them out one by one. Plan For Your Holidays - Don't wait until the last minute to plan for your holiday vacation. If you're taking time off, get your team prepared in advance so you can walk out the door with zero stress. Meet with your boss or team to go over who is taking time off so everyone is on the same page and knows what to expect. Create Your Year In Review - Before you sign off for 2024, make sure you track your accomplishments and keep a list of your wins so you're prepared for your next review. This is also a great time to update your resume and LinkedIn pages with the latest information. #TipTuesday #Last90Days #SheldrakeConsulting #MidCareerSuccess #WomenInBusiness #CoachMonica #GetUnstuck #MichiganCareerCoach #CareerCoach #CareerCoaching

We spend a lot of time planning and training for our specific jobs, but not a lot of time on our own personal brands. While a job is important, there is nothing more important than investing in yourself. Did you know that the World Health Organization has officially defined burnout as a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed? Following the pandemic, more than 60% of people who were struggling to manage their workloads had experienced burnout "often" or "extremely often." What's more, is that nearly 90% of people said their work life was getting worse. This is a scary phenomenon and if like me, you've experienced burnout, it can feel like quicksand. Just trying to slap a smile on your face and have a positive attitude won't fix your burnout...getting a massage or taking a bubble bath won't fix your burnout. But what will? I wrote a blog post that talks about this phenomenon and shares what you can do to combat burnout. Spoiler alert - there is no quick fix, but there is hope! Have you experienced burnout? Are you currently experiencing it? #CoachMonica #SheldrakeConsulting #GetUnstuck #MichiganCoach #CareerCoach #CareerCoaching #Burnout

Your resume is not your life story! Keep it simple and impactful. Use specific bullets to show actions taken and results delivered. Give them just enough information to make them want to learn more. The first thing you can do to clean up your resume is to reduce wordiness. Use two words instead of four. Remove most of the "a, an, the, of, to" words. I'm not here to tell you that the dream job doesn't exist, but it's not what you think it is. We spend decades of our lives fantasizing about the perfect job. Most of the time, it's about what we get to do in that job - remember xx in The Devil Wears Prada? Her job was considered a "dream job" because she was working at Vogue, but in reality it was a nightmare. A "dream job" isn't necessarily about the industry or the work you'll get to do. It's about working with an amazing team, getting paid what you're worth, gaining opportunities to grow and advance, being supported and valued, having a schedule that fits into your life. As kids we used to dream about jobs like being the President or a doctor - but in reality those are very toxic jobs and industries to work in. The work might be exciting, but the job isn't a dream. It's rare to find both, but it requires that you seek out environments and cultures that build you up. It might take a while to find the right one so in the meantime, manage expectations, but never stop looking! #CoachMonica #SheldrakeConsulting #GetUnstuck #MichiganCoach #CareerCoach #CareerCoaching
