⚡️ Energy transition leaders come in all shapes and sizes. At Gridcog we're working with all the players, from early-stage startups to some of the biggest energy businesses in the world. This great case study provides a profile on how the Shell E-Mobility team in The Netherlands are using Gridcog to model both forecourt and fleet electrification options. Take a look! 👀
Vehicle electrification is a huge feature of the energy transition. 🚘 🔋 We’ve been thrilled to welcome the Shell E-Mobility team to Gridcog’s growing customer base in the UK and Europe. Shell are using Gridcog to explore e-mobility solutions, model forecourt electrification projects, and guide large-scale fleet electrification projects. Our software allows Shell to analyse various scenarios for effective site design, commercial strategies and to accelerate their investment in EV charging infrastructure. This is another milestone in the Gridcog expansion to Europe and the UK, and in advancing the decarbonisation of the energy system - Thanks Anitha Immaneni, & Daniel Mata and the whole Shell E-Mobility team in Europe, for allowing us to share this story! 🙌 For a detailed read, you can read the full case study below - link in comments ⚡ 🌎 #EVcharging #Sustainability #Innovation #FutureIsElectric #carbonzero

Whilst the energy transition is a global movement, it’s multi-threaded and those different threads are more or less advanced in different markets and regions 🌎 For example, Australia leads the world in distributed solar ☀ but we’re a laggard internationally when it comes to eMobility and all the opportunities that surround it 🚗 That’s why it’s been very exciting over the last year to expand the focus of Gridcog beyond Australia. It means we get to work with amazing folks like Daniel Mata and Anitha Immaneni at Shell in Europe who are working at the cutting edge of the eMobility space. Check out the case study for a more detailed explanation but the TL;DR is Gridcog is used by the Shell team to accelerate the rollout of EV charging infrastructure, helping design EV charging projects that both work within the physical limitation of constrained grids but also maximise the commercial opportunities presented by markets like FCR and aFRR 📈 If you have any questions on the how or why them feel free to contact me or Gridcog’s Director of UK and Europe Genna Boyle.

The energy transition is a global movement but it's multi-threaded and those different threads are more or less advanced in different markets and regions 🌎 Australia might lead the world in the uptake of distributed solar ☀ but we're a laggard when it comes to other areas like EV adoption and all the innovation that goes with it 🚗 . The case study goes into more detail but these projects are focussed not only on the physical challenges of fitting EV charging into constrained grids, but also the emerging commercial opportunities to provide things like frequency management services (FCR and aFRR) into the European markets. If you have any questions on the how or why then feel free to reach out to me or Gridcog's Director of UK and Europe Genna Boyle for more deets.

Many commercial fleets are transitioning to vehicles powered by alternative fuels, such as EVs, and at Shell, we’re supporting this positive shift with substantial investment in our eMobility solutions. But we know that not everyone is able or ready to make the switch to a fully electric fleet immediately. So alongside investing in charging infrastructure we’re also continually developing and enhancing our alternative fuels so that we can provide our customers with solutions for reducing emissions while they are on their decarbonisation journey. The post requires correction regarding the classification of AdBlue as a renewable fuel. AdBlue, commonly known as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), plays a crucial role in reducing harmful NOx emissions. It’s composed of a precise mixture of 32.5% urea in distilled water. Unlike conventional fuels like petrol or diesel, AdBlue isn't combusted within the engine; instead, it's injected into the exhaust stream. This process, facilitated by Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, converts NOx pollutants into harmless nitrogen gas (N2) and water vapor (H2O). Therefore, while AdBlue contributes to emissions reduction, it should be clarified that it is not a renewable fuel source but rather solution that enables the SCR technology to reduce NOx and hence complying with the environmental requirements.
