Last week, #ShellFoundation received the "Community Impact Award" at the “EMFAI Sustainable Mobility Summit 2024” held in Delhi. The award recognises Shell Foundation for its significant contributions to sustainable mobility, the development of a robust electric vehicle ecosystem, and its widespread adoption in #India.  The EMFAI Sustainable Mobility Summit brought together industry, government, OEMs, and fleet operators to explore innovative financing mechanisms to overcome barriers to EV adoption, discuss policy frameworks and regulatory measures to accelerate the shift to electric mobility and best practices in the EV industry in India.  Shell Foundation has been working in India supporting the EV ecosystem at grassroot level to improve livelihoods of the people at the bottom of pyramid from the early #EV days. We support individual organisations, like Revfin and Mufin Green Finance, and recently in 2023 by introducing innovative instrument “EV- Risk Sharing facility” in partnership with SIDBI(Small Industries Development Bank of India) to de-risk the lenders in the ecosystem encouraging access to finance for underserved communities.  #ImpactInvesting #EnergyAccess #EnergyTransition #EV #EVFinancing #EMFAI #SustainableMobility #ElectricVehicles 

Shell Foundation, in collaboration with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Open Capital, is proud of the newly set-up Energy Access Institutions Facility (EAIF). This innovative $25m initiative aims to scale up the Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) sector by providing core funding and technical assistance to Market Institutions (MIs). Since 2010, #ShellFoundation with co-funding from the UK's FCDO, has provided establishment and core funding support to DRE MIs, which have proven instrumental in offering market-level support needed to develop and scale DRE solutions. The MIs have achieved great strides in the DRE sector, including supporting members to provide over 2.2m solar home systems (GOGLA) and 78,000 mini-grids (Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) across multiple African markets. The MIs together have also facilitated $1.75bn into their sectors and markets. With $5.5m of anchor funding and close support from FCDO and Shell Foundation, Open Capital designed, incubated, and managed the Facility over two years and successfully proved this concept with an initial portfolio of five market institutions serving different sectors and markets. Moving forward, CLASP has been identified as the long-term host and manager of the Facility. Rabobank's 2023 Impact Report highlights both the organisation's efforts and those of their partners to make positive change. #ShellFoundation is proud to partner with Rabobank in response to the challenges smallholder farmers in #India have faced during Covid-19 and since.  The #Covid19 response programme for Agri-transition in India bridges the gap between smallholder farmers and essential resources, increases resilience and empowers growth in India’s agricultural sector. By 2023, the programme had reached:  🔹 60,000 farmers  🔹 50% of FPOs target women  🔹 190 companies received FPO loans The innovative financing structure was developed in collaboration between Rabo Foundation, IKEA Foundation, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, and Shell Foundation with co-funding from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. This partnership removes risks for Financial Service Providers through a joint guarantee programme so that they may take the lead in providing local credit more comfortably to farmers in the long term.  The programme began in 2021 and runs until 2029, helping local lenders finance high-risk agricultural enterprises like Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Agtechs, and Renewable Energy enterprises, backed by a USDFC credit guarantee. This increases access to finance for these organisations and helps lenders build credit track records. The programme targets FPOs with at least 50% women smallholder farmers and promotes lending to women-led agri enterprises. FPO loans increased from 8 in 2022 to 109 in 2023, unlocking more capital for women in agriculture. Additionally, the programme includes a Technical Assistance component to support lenders and borrowers, enhancing resilience and improving funding prospects. Shell Foundation seeks clean energy solutions that benefit all, emphasising an inclusive energy transition for both emerging and developed markets, men and women, end customers, and shareholders alike. This principle is highlighted in the latest research paper on the “Role of Carbon Markets” by Triple Line, showcasing how Sistema.bio / Sistema Biobolsa uses carbon finance to subsidise biodigesters for farmers, making them more accessible. The report, commissioned by Sistema and #ShellFoundation with funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s CASEE partnership, outlines factors for high-quality, high-impact carbon emissions reduction and income-raising projects, focusing on biogas technology. Sistema’s biodigesters, installed on smallholder farms, turn organic waste like animal dung into clean energy and organic fertiliser.
