Congratulations to 🇱🇨 Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred 🥇 for winning gold in the Women's 100m in 10.72s, and Thea Lafond 🥇 of 🇩🇲 Dominica for capturing the gold medal in the Women's Triple Jump at 15.02m. Congratulations to Lindon Victor 🥉 of 🇬🇩 Grenada on winning the bronze medal in the Men's Decathlon. Rise up Stay up OECS!

Happy Friday! We are making it to the end of another productive work week. Welcome back to the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals’ (BACP) “Meet The Board of Directors 2024-2026 Series “🥁🥁 We introduce a longstanding member of the Association. Dwain Daniel is the Director who has served the most years on the BACP Executive and is one of the early members of the Association. While he has served in other capacities on the Board, Dwain currently serves as Vice President, BACP. A Compliance Manager with 17+ years of AML / CFT expertise in professionally supporting the compliance efforts with regulatory reporting requirements & obligations of both domestic and cross-border financial institutions. He has a well-defined background in undertaking the development of newly established compliance functions for financial institutions. Also, he is equipped with a diverse knowledge base which will positively supplement training and awareness programs in AML / CFT and Fraud. Dwain has been a content contributor to various AML e-Learning Courses and is an alumnus of the Financial & International Business Association. The BACP will continue to leverage Dwain’s know-how, experience and eagerness to discuss the compliance issues of the day.

A warm welcome back to the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals’ (BACP) “Meet The Board of Directors Series “🥁🥁 We introduce you to Sharon Norville , our Treasurer. Sharon is an Associate Certified Administrative Manager and Compliance professional who brings a vast range of knowledge and expertise. She possesses a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism. She previously worked in the offshore industry especially for international business companies where she maintained outstanding client relations with various high net worth clients regionally and internationally. In addition to management, client relations and compliance, another one of her attributes is accounting. Sharon has conducted year-end account audits in the islands of St. Lucia and St. Kitts & Nevis. She has performed the role of Executive Assistant and Assistant Compliance Officer and attained great experience and knowledge in the corporate secretarial field. She has been awarded several certificates in AML CFT Training, Advanced AML Training and AML CFT PF Training, and the Advanced AML Legal and Corporate Services Workshop Certificate. She also obtained a certificate in AML Foundation from ACAMS and the STEP certificate in AML Training. Sharon is presently enrolled with ICA pursing the Certificate in KYC and CDD and the ICA Specialist Certificate in Financial Risk in Cryptocurrencies. Sharon is one of the longest serving members currently on the Board of Directors and with her knowledge and experience, she also brings continuity to the Board of Directors.

We spotlight again the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals’ (BACP) “Meet The Board of Directors Series “🥁🥁 We introduce to you Alison W. Chair, Training and Development of the Board of Directors 2024-2026. Alison is the immediate Past President of the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals on the 2022-2024 Board of Directors. Her vision is to see the association as a strong provider of compliance support for compliance professionals in Barbados, through the provision of relevant quality training and networking opportunities. Alison believes that she can continue to directly contribute to the strengthening of the Association through the execution of the role of the Training and Development Chair. Alison started her career as a management trainee at a major UK commercial Bank then relocated to Barbados where she was also a management trainee at a major UK Bank. Alison is an International Banking Professional with in excess of 25 years of leading industry experience within the domestic, commercial, offshore, development banking, credit union and International Insurance sectors. Alison being a diverse and flexible professional, has also spent several years as a Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering professional for global energy companies in the United Kingdom as well as financial services firms. Specifically,she spent three years with a major UK energy company where she played a major role in the building of the AML/CFT Compliance Monitoring and Transaction Monitoring programs which also focused on the detection and prevention of market abuse. Alison has held the FCA approved person functions CF10 and CF11 as Head of Compliance and MLRO for a Soft commodities and Energy Futures trading company in Aldgate, London, UK. Upon her return to Barbados in 2015, Alison undertook a project for one of the largest Commercial Banks in the region, to review their Insider Trading Policy and Procedures. Alison has also held the role of Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for the largest Credit Union in Barbados. Alison was approved by the Financial Services Commission, Central Bank of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank to perform this role. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Services and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. She also holds an MSc Financial Services Management from University of Surrey (UK) and ICA Diplomas in International Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering (Merit). Alison also has certifications in Corporate Governance and Operational Risk Management. We look forward to continuing to leverage Alison’s experiences to provide quality, relevant training to governance, risk and compliance professionals.

Welcome back to the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals’ (BACP) Meet The Board of Directors Series 🥁🥁 Our next Director on the 2024-2026 Board to whom we wish to introduce to you is Ryan Best, our Secretary. Ryan Best is a seasoned anti-money laundering (AML) professional with over two decades of experience in the retail banking and insurance sector. He worked in an international bank across four Caribbean countries, gaining expertise in banking operations and risk management. His managerial roles included overseeing Small Business and Retail functions, where he ensured regulatory compliance and managed money laundering reporting. Ryan holds an ACAMS Certification, demonstrating his commitment to AML best practices. He earned an MBA from the University of Surrey, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados. Recognizing the evolving landscape of financial services, Mr. Best pursues ongoing professional development, currently undertaking an ICA postgraduate diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance. As the Compliance Manager and Anti-Money Laundering Officer at an international business, risk and insurance company in Barbados, Mr. Best leads the development and implementation of robust AML strategies. He also serves as the Managing Consultant of Best Compliance Inc., offering Governance Risk and Compliance services to various organizations.

Welcome to the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals’ (BACP) Meet The Board of Directors Series 🥁🥁 The second Director, we wish to introduce is Celina Burke, CAMS , our Assistant Treasurer. Celina Burke has over 5 years of experience in compliance, acquired from both the private and public sectors. Her experience began with a summer internship at a local offshore bank, in which she was exposed to anti-money laundering training and assisted with executing the day-to-day compliance function. Celina was subsequently a member of a consulting team with the International Business Unit, tasked with regulatory review of the local corporate and trust service provider sector. Currently, Celina is employed as a Compliance Specialist with a private consulting firm, in which she is responsible for assisting the principal director with the provision of independent anti-money laundering consulting services. Celina Burke holds a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Criminology, (First Class Honours) from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. Celina is diligent, shows significant attention to detail and has great enthusiasm for compliance and legal research. We welcome Celina with her myriad experiences on the Board of Directors.

Manassea Boyce is a graduate of the University of the West Indies where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies with Honours. Manassea subsequently furthered her professional development with the attainment of the International Advanced Certificate in Anti Money Laundering, with Merit and the Certificate in Compliance, with Distinction from the International Compliance Association, UK of which she is a member. Manassea is employed at a leading Corporate and Trust Service Provider in Barbados as a Corporate Administrator with a focus on corporate secretarial and governance functions. BACP is pleased to have Manassea’s skillset and experience on our Board.
