We apply many of these principles in our #solargrazing program. Many people are looking for a silver bullet or a magic formula for how to graze properties where one doesn’t exist. You have to adapt to the cadre of conditions that exist & be nimble to changes in real time. There are so many variables that a computer model-mindset or a codified #grazing plan won’t get you very far. There is an ART and a #science to managing #pastures well. It may not be perfect based on the species in the field, time of year, number of animals, how long they’re on a paddock, weather, etc. but you MUST develop an eye for what the vegetation status & animals performance is telling you.

Ask Hutch Achieving success in spring turkey hunting requires the right setup, whether you’re using a bow or a shotgun. Here’s the perfect setup for both archery and shotgun hunters: For Archery: 1. Blind Selection: Choose a ground blind or natural brush setup that provides ample concealment and allows for a clear shooting lane towards known turkey roosting or feeding areas. 2. Decoy Placement: Position turkey decoys within effective shooting range (typically 15-25 yards) to draw birds into range. Use hen and jake decoys to mimic a natural setup and entice gobblers. 3. Calling Strategy: Utilize turkey calls such as box calls, slate calls, or diaphragm calls to mimic realistic hen and tom vocalizations. Practice calling to attract gobblers and keep them engaged. 4. Shot Placement: Aim for the vital area of the turkey, which is roughly the size of a grapefruit, located on the bird’s head and neck region for a clean and ethical kill. For Shotgun: 1. Concealment: Whether using a ground blind or natural cover, ensure you are well-hidden to avoid being detected by wary turkeys. 2. Decoy Setup: Place turkey decoys strategically within shooting range to attract gobblers into range. Consider using a combination of hen and tom decoys to add realism to your setup. 3. Calling Technique: Use a variety of turkey calls to mimic hen and tom vocalizations, adjusting your calling based on the response of nearby birds. 4. Shot Selection: Wait for the turkey to present a clear shot opportunity within your effective range before taking the shot. Aim for the turkey’s head and neck region for a clean and humane harvest. Regardless of your chosen weapon, patience, practice, and understanding turkey behavior are key to a successful spring turkey hunt. Happy hunting! https://lnkd.in/g58NDx2B
