Would you like some tips on how to get your resume through Applicant Tracking Systems? If you need Tips 1-6 please go back to my prior posts. Tips 7-10 7. Excessive Use of Abbreviations Mistake: Using too many acronyms or abbreviations without context. Issue: ATS systems may not recognize industry-specific abbreviations, potentially missing key qualifications. Solution: Spell out acronyms and abbreviations at least once (e.g., "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)") to ensure they are recognized. 8. Not Including Keywords in Context Mistake: Keyword stuffing or placing keywords without context. Issue: Some ATS systems use algorithms to check for contextual usage. Keywords without context may be flagged as irrelevant. Solution: Ensure keywords are used in context within job descriptions, accomplishments, and skills sections. 9. Missing Contact Information Mistake: Forgetting to include essential details like email address, phone number, or LinkedIn profile. Issue: Without contact information, even if your resume is selected, the employer cannot contact you. Solution: Include all your essential contact details at the top of your resume, in the main body. 10. Neglecting Soft Skills Mistake: Focusing only on hard skills and technical keywords. Issue: Some ATS systems also search for soft skills relevant to the job, such as communication or leadership. Solution: Include soft skills that match the job posting to increase your chances of getting past the initial screening. Hopefully these tens tips have been helpful to you!

To optimize your resume for an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), here are some suggestions: 1. Keywords: Ensure that your resume contains industry-specific keywords and phrases from the job descriptions you are targeting. Keywords related to HR such as “recruitment”, “performance management”, “HRBP”, “employee engagement”, “negotiations”, “compliance”, and “training” should be prominently featured. 2. Format: ATS systems prefer simple and clean formatting. Avoid using complex tables, graphics, or images. Use standard section headings like “Work Experience”, “Education”, “Skills”, “Certifications”, and “Summary”. 3. Consistency: Use consistent formatting for dates, job titles, and company names. For example: • Dates: Use a consistent format like MM/YYYY - MM/YYYY or Month Year - Month Year. • Job Titles and Company Names: Ensure they are bolded or italicized consistently. 4. Bullet Points: Use bullet points for listing responsibilities and achievements to improve readability. 5. Acronyms and Full Forms: Include both acronyms and their full forms. For example, write “HR (Human Resources)” to ensure that the ATS captures the keyword.

Creating a professional CV that is compatible with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) involves several key steps and considerations: 1. Use a Simple and Standard Format: Choose a clean and simple format for your CV. Avoid complex layouts or designs that ATS may struggle to read or parse. 2. Include Relevant Headings and Sections: Organize your CV with clear headings such as Personal Information, Education, Work Experience, Skills, and Additional Information. 3. Use Keywords: Incorporate relevant keywords related to your field and the job requirements. Keywords help ATS identify the relevance of your CV to the job. 4. Avoid Images, Symbols, and Tables: ATS systems can have difficulty parsing images, symbols, or tables. It's best to avoid these elements and stick to text-based information. 5. Use Bullet Points: Utilize bullet points to list responsibilities and achievements in each job role. This makes it easier for ATS to scan and analyze your experience. 6. Choose Words Carefully: Use specific and clear language to describe your experiences and achievements. Avoid overly complex or technical jargon unless necessary. 7. Highlight Key Information at the Top: Ensure that critical information such as your name, contact details, and summary are prominently placed at the top of your CV for easy visibility. 8. Review and Test: After creating your CV, review it carefully for any errors or inconsistencies. If possible, test your CV in an ATS environment to ensure it parses correctly. 9. Save in Text-Based Formats: When submitting your CV online or through a web form, save it in a text-based format such as DOCX or PDF. Avoid formats that might alter your CV's formatting or readability in ATS. By following these guidelines, you can optimize your CV to be ATS-friendly, increasing your chances of getting noticed and progressing to the interview stage for the job you're applying for.

This was very informative for me, I have taken note of the information provided by Mr. Darren Parkinson. Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), are being used more by various industries to filter for the best-aligned candidates. We aren't ever familiar with the criteria these ATS use to scan and analyse CVs and that could place you at a disadvantage in your job searching. I have heard of and studied these systems for my HR module very fundamentally but can't say I have had any other form of interactions with them, and even if I did, how would I know? So please have a read at this short and informative article about the new trends of job-seeking that are only going to become more advanced and complicated over time.
