Madison: Now don’t get me wrong OCD DEFINITELY causes anxiety but more than just anxiety keeps us stuck. I remember vividly near the end of my spiral I was no longer anxious but more frustrated and sad that I couldn’t just “stop”. And lo and behold that was also keeping me stuck. This disorder is sneaky. It will always try to find ways to keep you stuck and without know what it’s using it’s harder to know what’s OCD! Tell me in the comments what emotions you feel besides anxiety!! In honor of September being Suicide Awareness Month, we are hosting a training on 9/7 called, "Harm OCD, Suicidal Ideation, or Both?" It will meet the 4 Suicide Prevention & Awareness CEU requirement for Nevada CPCs / MFTs (& it's also approved for Social Workers in NV!!) Event info: Harm OCD and suicidal ideation may look similar, but there are key differences that are important to understand for effective and ethical treatment planning. Clients with OCD have an increased risk of suicide, and therefore learning to differentiate between harm OCD and SI can improve therapeutic outcomes while helping mental health professionals to limit professional liability. This training will teach you to identify harm OCD, differentiate it from suicidal ideation, and treatment plan accordingly, even when there is a presence of both harm OCD & SI. https://lnkd.in/gBfsn5dJ

FYI- This will prove to be an awesome training for those working with trauma impacted patients/clients. The Other Side of the ACEs Pyramid: An Indigenous Healing Framework Event Dates March 29, 2024, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Eastern Location Online Many people have learned about the landmark Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study and its results demonstrating the link between ACEs and poor mental health and health outcomes. After hearing about this information, people often wonder what we need to do in order to address ACEs on a community-wide level. A public health framework to conceptualize next steps will provide a comprehensive community-driven approach to advance healing. Learning Objectives: Broaden the existing trauma lens to include cultural considerations of trauma and its impacts. Increase a broader understanding of how to mitigate the impacts of trauma on a community-wide level. Learn about the trauma focus areas that we can universalize to all children and families we connect with. Facilitator: Maegan Rides At The Door, Director, National Native Children's Trauma Center https://lnkd.in/g_4AV4d9

This week at the NLPOA conference in Las Vegas with Sendy Lopez, Louis A. Molina, Sgt. Jopalian, Officer Zvulun and Officer Bravo. ✨Here’s my key takeaway: To address root causes of crime and disorder instead of solely responding to effects (which is also important), we’re being called to step out of the silo of policing and form strategic partnerships. That’s going to be essential for the kind of systemic reform we’re envisioning, especially in addressing mental health, substance abuse, and the layered nature of crime. Real change requires an all hands on deck approach.

Champion of Psychologically Safe Learning Environments | Founder/CEO, Herrera Psychology | Co-Founder, HumanizEDU | Youth Mental Health Advocate
Here’s my local struggle… I’ve had more than one parent recently tell me that when they asked someone at their child’s school for a recommendation within our community to address their child’s mental health struggles, the school personnel did not have any suggestions. *If you work with children, you must have a network of suggestions for organizations who support youth mental health. *Educate yourself on the local providers. *Youth mental health is a collective responsibility. Navigating the behavioral/mental health system is so challenging, and when a parent finally asks another adult for a recommendation or guidance, the problem is probably pretty big. Please know your community health organizations, refer parents to NAMI, tell them to ask their child’s pediatrician, let them know that you will find out and get back to them. The following Florida-based private psychology practices provide youth mental health support (individual therapy, group therapy, and parent coaching): Herrera Psychology https://lnkd.in/d2q83pUJ https://lnkd.in/eSf-Qi9i www.childtherapysrq.com www.funpsy.com The following are Sarasota County nonprofit organizations who specialize in children and youth mental health: JFCS of the Suncoast SAMARITAN COUNSELING SERVICES OF THE GULF COAST INC Lightshare Behavioral Wellness & Recovery (First Step) I also know that these same businesses/organizations will provide other resources and referrals if they are not a good fit for the family. So, even if you remembered one organization you could provide the starting point for a parent who is struggling to find support for their child. If you are an educator or work in education and have other suggestions for sharing resources with families, I am open to ideas on how to help parents navigate the mental health system.

Suicide Prevention Subject Matter Expert| Policy Analyst|Trauma Informed Clinician| Health Equity Advocate| Healthcare Leader| | Public Health Advocate| Presenter|Live Well Consulting PLLC CEO
🚨Exciting news! I am thrilled to be a part of clinical efforts in HEALTH EQUITY, as the subject matter expert for this training. 1330 reviews is exciting!!!! That’s 1330 more folks engaging in cultural intentionality! This clinical training program is a critical step forward in mental health. It prioritizes multi-cultural case conceptualization of race, ethnicity, culture, and intersectional identities within suicide prevention. It's unfortunate that many clinical programs don’t train exclusively in suicide prevention and cultural intentionality. However, this training program will help us better serve our minoritized communities in health and wellness. Let's continue to prioritize diversity and inclusion in mental health treatment. #suicideprevention #diversityandinclusion #clinicaltraining #mentalhealthawareness
