𝕊𝕡𝕖𝕖𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕞𝕡𝕤 𝕥𝕠 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕣𝕠𝕒𝕕 𝕤𝕒𝕗𝕖𝕥𝕪 ℤ𝕚𝕨𝕒𝕪 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝔸𝕕𝕒𝕞𝕚 𝕋𝕦𝕝𝕦 In Ethiopia, our farms are located next to the main road that connects Addis Abeba to Moyale. Despite the fact that the new highway has reduced traffic intensity, unfortunately there are still many traffic accidents. That is why we have been lobbying for some time to implement speed-reducing measures. Last week, the Ethiopian Road Authorities (ERA) have constructed a total of 6 speeds bumps in the vicinity of our farms. We would like to thank the ERA for their cooperation. We hope our employees and the community members are better protected now. #ERA #RoadSafety #ethiopia #roses #safety

A couple weeks ago, I had the privilege of traveling to Addis Ababa, my birthplace, often called the "political capital of Africa" due to its #historical and #political significance. Although my trip was primarily for ministry work, as a #transportation enthusiast, I couldn't help but notice the massive corridor #development underway, capturing numerous transportation-related pictures and videos. Growing up in #Addis, I witnessed high #congestion and fatality rates due to inadequate #pedestrian and #bikelanes. We often biked on main #roads without protection, and pedestrians faced severe #traffic dangers. Despite 85% of the population not owning vehicles, over 90% of the #streets are designated for autos, leading to high road crash rates. This new corridor development aims to address these issues. As an adult in the transportation industry, I developed a keen interest toward improving Addis Ababa's transportation system. During my time at University of California, Berkeley, I wrote my thesis on the city's Non-Motorized Transportation system, focusing on pilot bike lanes. I evaluated their #safety based on international standards and provided recommendations to local #municipalities, hoping to inform future projects. In recent years, Addis Ababa has been undergoing significant changes. The city's commitment to widening roads to add bike lanes and expanding pedestrian pathways is remarkable. This effort aims to transform Addis into a hospitable and #livable #city for its citizens and visitors. The Addis Ababa's Corridor Development Project (CDP) is part of a broader reform by Addis Ababa City Administration, Addis Ababa City Transport Authority, and the Mayor Office to modernize Addis by revitalizing neglected #urban districts. The plan includes constructing #bicycle routes, spacious pedestrian #walkways, better roads, and #parks, as well as upgrading outdated drainage systems and utility networks. Workers at the project sites are seen working day and night to finish the project within a short period. While it's important to acknowledge the potential impacts on local #residents, particularly #lowincome #communities and #smallbusiness owners, every effort should be made to minimize these impacts to vulnerable communities. Upon completion, the long-term benefits will be significant for all stakeholders. I can’t wait to see the upgraded and new active mode of transportation network when I visit next time!

🛣️ **𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧; 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧** While the Karakoram Highway (KKH), Baltistan Road, and Astore Road have partially reopened for traffic in the northern region of Pakistan, a fresh spell of rainfall has been persistently lashing Quetta and various other areas of northern and central Balochistan over the past 24 hours. Despite the partial restoration of major roadways, thousands of passengers continue to encounter difficulties due to the limited availability of transport services between Gilgit-Baltistan and other parts of the country. Reports indicate that the Karakoram Highway reopened after a closure lasting five days; however, travelers are being cautioned to refrain from using the road until full restoration measures are completed. As the situation unfolds, authorities are closely monitoring road conditions and implementing necessary measures to ensure the safety and convenience of travelers. Stay tuned for further updates on road accessibility and weather conditions across the region. #Pakistan #RoadConditions #NorthernPakistan #Balochistan #Rainfall #TravelUpdates #KarakoramHighway #TransportationChallenges

𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐀 𝐓𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐄: #RoadSafety Drivers, the only ones formally educated on traffic laws, hold the key to safer roads. Neglecting vehicle maintenance and failing to adapt to road conditions make crashes avoidable and tragic. Ethiopia needs drivers who are ready to take accountability seriously. Road crashes cost developing countries like Ethiopia about five percent of their GDP. The financial burden is enormous, diverting resources from critical areas. Improving road safety is also an economic necessity. Read more https://ow.ly/T8Pn50SF8oc

Recent heavy rainfall has caused widespread disruption, triggering landslides that have blocked key roads, including the Karakoram Highway. The stretch of the Karakoram Highway near Kohistan-Gilgit has been particularly affected, with significant landslides rendering the road impassable near the Doga bridge. This obstruction has severely affected travel and trade between Gilgit and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Efforts are underway to clear the highway, but progress is slow due to the challenging conditions caused by the landslides. In response, the KP tourism authority has advised travelers to seek alternative routes until the highway is cleared. The National Highway Authority has issued warnings about the risk of landslides along various sections of the highway, urging caution. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the clearance operations progress. #Karakoram #highway #closed #landslide #follower #followers #followerseveryone
