In Meghalaya, India, the Khasi and Jaintia have perfected the art of creating bridges made from living roots. A living root bridge is made when the rubber tree's roots are braided over time to form robust structures that can withstand natural forces and time. Unlike traditional bridges, these living bridges become stronger as the years go by. The process of creating these bridges spans many years with roots having to be directed and carefully guided into place. And the structures thus formed become not only functionally and environmentally sustainable but also harmonically connected to nature. These living bridges, some of which are now over 500 years old, remain such an important part of living in Meghalaya today. These are a special combination of tradition, ingenuity, and respect for nature that seem to point toward an eventual harmony between nature and human creativity. . . . #LivingBridges #Meghalaya #SustainableLiving #NatureInspired #TreeRootBridges #EnvironmentalInnovation #CulturalHeritage #GreenArchitecture #EcoFriendlyDesign #IndigenousWisdom #NaturalEngineering #TraditionalCraft #CommunityConnection #StrongAndSustainable #FutureOfBridges #Tribunetrends

During my recent visit to Qutub Minar in Delhi, I was thinking about the powerful role historical landmarks play in the branding of a nation. The Qutub Minar, a symbol of India's rich history, stands as a testament to the artistry, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage that can shape the identity of an entire civilization. In today’s world, monuments like the Qutub Minar are more than just architectural feats – they are integral to India's national brand. They tell stories of resilience, heritage, and innovation. Just like a strong brand, they resonate with audiences across the globe, creating an emotional connection and an enduring legacy. As businesses, we can learn from these structures: consistency, authenticity, and a strong sense of purpose are key to creating a lasting impact. Much like how these monuments stand tall against time, a well-built brand can continue to inspire and influence for generations. Let’s take a moment to reflect on how we can incorporate these timeless lessons into our branding strategies, and create something that, just like the Qutub Minar, stands tall in the minds of those we engage with. #Branding #IndianHeritage #MarketingStrategy #QutubMinar #CulturalImpact #Legacy

Reimagining Rourkela Rourkela was a pioneering city in establishing the first Integrated steel plant in India. As #Odisha continues its development march, it is time to rethink cities like Rourkela. These were my thoughts on a 4-C model for Making Rourkela Great (MARG) at a recent event organized by the Chamber of Commerce: 1. Collect: Collect and document *local * technical Innovation and entrepreneurship examples. The city's steel making prowess with SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant has led to a remarkable cluster like Warwick in the UK. 2. Connect: Connect with the state and national priorities to gain momentum. For example, the region is famous for great hockey- can we build a manufacturing cluster for similar ground sports? Or a #circular #economy and #sustainability hub for recycling and #remanufacturing engineering products or mining waste? 3. Create: Creating a) City Stakeholder Councils b) Success Matrix and c) Growth model using examples like #doughnut #economy in #Amsterdam ? ( Growth within environmental and social limits) 4. Communicate: Using social media and storytelling to position the city and district. Thanks Dr. Padmini Panigrahi for the invite to be a 'MARG darshak' :) #viksit #bharat needs development and marketing of small towns beyond selfie points. We need Imagination. Sometime ago, I visited a Japanese steel plant at night as part of Industrial Tourism. Enjoyed an illuminated, beautiful and sophisticated steel plant at night. Sublime as a haiku. What is stopping us? Would love to hear your views. #Rourkela #marketing #Odisha #tourism #sustainable #development

# When Art Opens Doors: Rethinking Development Picture Alakkattu Mana, a historic Namboodiri family mansion in Kerala, its imposing walls enclosing four acres of land long inaccessible to many. Now, envision those same gates opening wide, welcoming people who had never once set foot on this hallowed ground. This isn't hypothetical. It's a transformative moment I witnessed in Thrissur during Abul Kalam Azad's "Linking Lineages" exhibition (2018). For the first time, community members who had only gazed at this magnificent household from afar were not just allowed in—they were invited to explore the property and enjoy the photographs on display. The joy was palpable as people savored both the art and the unprecedented access to this heritage site. It was a powerful reminder of how art can dismantle invisible barriers that persist in our modern society. This experience illuminated a critical aspect often overlooked in development and CSR initiatives: Art and culture aren't mere embellishments. They're catalysts for social transformation, capable of: 1. Fostering community pride 2. Promoting inclusivity 3. Recalibrating long-standing power dynamics Yet, cultural projects frequently remain peripheral in development agendas. But what could be more impactful than witnessing individuals transcend generations of social boundaries, all within a historically significant space? It's time for a paradigm shift in our approach to development. We must create initiatives that not only enhance infrastructure but also nurture the cultural fabric of communities. True progress resonates in both physical improvements and evolving social narratives. Have you observed art catalyzing social change in spaces with deep historical significance? Share your insights below. #CulturalDevelopment #SocialInnovation #ArtForChange Image: Linking Lineages, Abul Kalam Azad's exhibition, 2018

During my recent visit to Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, I came across this board highlighting UNESCO’s 32 Cultural World Heritage Sites in India. While the effort to showcase our heritage is appreciated, I noticed several issues that need attention: 1️⃣ India now has 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (including cultural, natural, and mixed), yet this board lists only 32, missing the chance to celebrate all of them. 2️⃣ The board features location mismatches! For example, the Ajanta Caves, which are near Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, are incorrectly marked in Madhya Pradesh. Such inaccuracies not only mislead but also diminish the authenticity of the display. 3️⃣ The board's poor maintenance and outdated design fail to do justice to the grandeur of our cultural heritage. 4️⃣ The map is cluttered, with unclear labels that make it difficult to identify the sites. This raises an important question: Is presenting our heritage with care and accuracy as important as preserving it? I believe it is. Have you come across similar issues in other heritage displays? Are there other errors or areas for improvement that you see here? Let’s start a conversation. ⌨️ Share your thoughts in the comments below! Talk about science and technology ? Talk about building great things .. This will leave you spell bound ! This is the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, . This is an architectural marvel that has no comparison in the world . The temple's gopuram, or tower, is designed in such a way that it aligns perfectly with the sun's path on two days of the year - 👉the spring equinox and 👉the autumn equinox. On these days, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗺, 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁. The gopuram was rebuilt 260 years ago, without any of today's technology, and yet it achieved this remarkable feat of precision and harmony. The temple is also one of the richest in the world, with an estimated value of over $20 billion in treasures and artifacts. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is depicted in a reclining posture on a serpent. What a wonder .. 🙏 Incredible India, Ministry of Tourism, India Government of India #india #scienceandtechnology #architecture #culture #engineering #lordvishnu #templesofindia
