In our journey to reshape narratives, we've learned that stories are not just stories—they are catalysts for change. In a five-part series over the next few days, we’ll explore key insights that guide our efforts in reshaping narratives for a brighter, more inclusive future for Arkansas. 1️⃣ Stories Matter: Voices from local communities, especially in southern and rural areas, are crucial but often unheard. Supporting platforms that elevate these voices is not just necessary; it's transformative. 2️⃣ Nonprofits Are Key: Nonprofit organizations have the potential to amplify mission-aligned issues and connect with community storytellers. However, many lack the necessary communications resources to make these connections effectively. 3️⃣ Doing > Understanding: Understanding narrative change is one thing; implementing it is another. Effective narrative change requires a place-based strategy and deep relationship-building efforts. It’s about doing the hard work, not just using the buzzwords. Our approach goes beyond mere investments; it's about strategically reading and interpreting the ecosystems around us, fostering relationships, and building capacities. Stay tuned as we highlight key narrative change insights and promote a narrative that focuses on possibilities and solutions rather than problems. #EquityinAction #NarrativeChange #WRF #RelentlessPursuit

Recent projected shifts in the funding landscape have created new challenges across the nonprofit and private sectors. Many organizations are likely to face resource constraints while serving millions of community members. Now is the time to not only process the ever changing dynamics we are seeing, but now is the time to PLAN: P - Prioritize critical programs and assess financial health L - Leverage community partnerships and resources A - Adapt funding strategies for sustainability N - Navigate change through collaborative innovation While things may seem bad, the good thing is, you're not in this alone. We're in this TOGETHER!!! As you began to move forward in your strategic planning efforts, here are some strategies to implement: 1️⃣ Assess & Adapt: Evaluate your organization's financial sustainability (for at least one year-- three years if you can). Focus on critical programs and optimize resource allocation. You should know down to the penny, how much it cost to operate each program/project under your org. 2️⃣ Diversify Funding: Enhance fundraising strategies, explore new grant opportunities, and develop strategic partnerships. What new directions can the org go in? What lies at the intersection of your work's avenue. 3️⃣ Collaborate & Share Resources: Strengthen community partnerships—share knowledge, resources, and best practices to maximize our collective impact. 4️⃣ Plan Strategically: Create robust contingency plans and focus on long-term sustainability. 5️⃣ Advocate Together: Unite your voices to highlight the critical importance of sustained funding for essential community programs. Community Advisory Boards and Coalitions will be vital during these times. Let's connect and support each other. How is your organization adapting to current challenges? Share your strategies and or reach. I'm here to help, I'm here to listen and I'm also here to learn!! #Leadership #NonprofitLeadership #Community #Advocacy #StrategicPlanning #PublicHealth #Communications

I recently read an article called “Why Nonprofit-Government Partnerships Sometimes Flounder.” As I have worked with many successful nonprofit-government partnerships over the years, I was curious about what the author had to say. I found myself at odds with the author’s narrative that states the “key reason public and non-profit partnerships fail is because of the widely used strategies for improving and tracking the impact of these services, commonly called “results accountability.” My research has shown that nonprofits and governments who adopt a measurement culture that values data and outcomes consistently outperform their peers. I have worked with hundreds of nonprofit and government leaders to overcome the challenges to impact measurement which led to tremendous success adopting high-performance, data-driven cultures while remaining flexible to the community’s needs. In a response to the article, I published the following blog. https://lnkd.in/g29pg-t5 What do you think? Do you think being accountable to outcomes is an unrealistic ask or an important part of the equation for true social change?

Congratulations to the Detroit Regional Chamber for last week's insightful and thought-provoking 2024 Mackinac Policy Conference. Kresge would also like to thank Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation, for her valuable insights at two sessions at #MPC24. Here is what the Regional Chamber wrote about Valerie’s contributions: The 2024 Mackinac Policy Conference brought together influential leaders to discuss critical issues and shape Michigan’s future. One of the notable speakers was Valerie Jarrett, the Chief Executive Officer of The Barack Obama Foundation. During the conference, she emphasized the importance of creative placemaking and reimagining our future. Here are some key takeaways from her session: 1. The Power of Place: Jarrett highlighted the significance of a shared sense of place. When community leaders harness this power, it becomes a tool for building a unified future. Communities that can build and distribute resources while maintaining a strong sense of self are the ones that thrive. 2. Government’s Role: Drawing from her experience in the Obama Administration, Jarrett emphasized that the federal government should lay the foundational groundwork for building place and improving infrastructure. However, local communities and business leaders should actively contribute to growth and progress. It’s an investment, not charity. 3. True Timeline of Progress: Building place and civil infrastructure takes time. Progress occurs incrementally over decades. Lewis Jackson from The Kresge Foundation emphasized the need for honest benchmarks where residents can see progress. Redefining what makes a neighborhood livable is essential, beyond traditional definitions. You can watch her two sessions here: The Power of Place: Shaping Who We Are and Building Our Future: https://lnkd.in/eEE2bq3N A Conversation with Valerie Jarrett: https://lnkd.in/eD8yJpv3

Day 11 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: This can all feel overwhelming, even hopeless. How can we hold hope together? Overwhelmed. Disempowered. Scared. Angered. Denial. All these reactions can come up when facing such intense, unpredictable problems and violence with a perceived lack of tested solutions or necessary effort to try them – and are a part of why we have not managed to course-correct quickly and effectively enough. So how can we find and hold hope together? Over the coming days we share some of the places we are finding hope and we invite you to share yours. We’ll focus on: Examples from history Our societal capacities to meet the challenge The agency of all of us to role to play a critical role (which we know how to unlock) Full Plymouth Octopus(POP) narrative: https://buff.ly/4dQZbD1 POP learning and thinking: https://buff.ly/4fZAcPG Dark Matter Labs @Annette https://buff.ly/3YSF4Ac Sky Space Team Development Cic @Jen https://buff.ly/3yMsPK #BEMOREPLYMOUTH #fairer #greener #futurism #regenerativefutures #learning #sharednarrative #plymouth #systemconvening #community #grassroots #funding #grantmaking
