WHY IS DENMARK WHERE IT’S AT IN HEARING? 👂🏼 The 2024 International EUHA e.V. Congress, to be held in Hanover this October, will fete its latest international partner, Denmark. We asked the big Danish players for their understanding of their country's prominence in audiology. Three of the big five hearing aid manufacturers have emerged from the same Scandinavian fountainhead: Denmark is the birthplace of Demant, GN Group, and WSAudiology. We asked all three to tell their stories and to try to explain why this Nordic former superpower developed such prominence in the worldwide hearing industry: https://lnkd.in/ds8CMncu

Pure-tone audiometry alone can't tell the full story. Here's why speech testing matters: → It reveals real-world hearing challenges → Patients relate better to speech than beeps → It guides more effective hearing aid fitting I've seen countless patients surprised by their speech test results. One gentleman with "mild" hearing loss struggled to understand basic phrases. Speech testing showed why - and helped us find the right solution. Are we doing enough to assess functional hearing? Let's expand our toolbox and serve our patients better. What's your experience with speech testing in audiology? #Audiology #HearingHealth

Instructive to read this journalist's concerns about lack of published prices for prescription #hearingaids: "I was able to wangle an official price range out of the company only after weeks of nagging, as I was told pricing is set by each audiologist, not the company. For Signia to be so hesitant to provide even a loose range is alarming, to the point where, for that reason alone, I would hesitate to recommend the product." To what extent is lack of standardized pricing and lack of price transparency for prescription hearing aids creating poor consumer perceptions of the channel? Global hearing aid companies would benefit from considering this strategic question. https://lnkd.in/ersEECUs

This month is dedicated to spreading awareness about audiologists' services and why you might consider hearing protection or treatment. In celebration of Audiology Awareness Month, here is a list of facts you may not have known about the topic of audiology and hearing: 👂 Audiologists treat people of all ages, not just older individuals. Half of those individuals with hearing loss are younger than age 65 and should seek treatment for hearing loss. 🎧 Audiologists don't just offer hearing aids as treatment. Audiologists can provide personalized treatment and services to people suffering from conditions like dizziness/balance issues or tinnitus. Also, they can offer hearing screenings and protection to prevent hearing loss (if you haven't begun experiencing any yet). 👂 If your child isn't performing well in school or having issues paying attention, it could be due to hearing loss. 60% of childhood hearing loss is due to preventable causes and can be treated by an audiologist. One of the most common complaints I hear from patients is, “My new hearing aids sound strange or too loud!” It’s important to understand that this is a perfectly normal part of the adjustment process. When someone experiences gradual hearing loss, their brain adapts to a quieter world. New hearing aids reintroduce sounds that may have been missing for years—like the rustling of leaves or distant conversations. Initially, this can feel like sensory overload, but with consistent use, things start to sound more natural over time. Patience is key! The ears and brain just need a bit more time to adjust to the new hearing world. If someone you know has recently started using hearing aids and feels frustrated, remind them that they’re not alone! Audiologists and hearing aid practitioners can work closely with patients to ensure the adjustment process is as smooth as possible Calgary Hearing Aid & Audiology #patientcare #hearinghealth #calgaryhearingaid

Within Audiology there are unfortunantly many misconceptions I have come across!! . Hearing aids are neither practical nor beautiful . A hearing aid only makes sense in cases of severe hearing impairment . The hearing aid is only needed in old age . You only need to adjust your hearing aid once It must be very frustrating as an Audiologist to hear these comment but as always with proper education these misconceptions can be eradictated! What misconceptions have you come across in your field? .. comment below! #audiology #audiologist #hearingloss #hearingloss #hearingaids #pediatricaudiologist #speechtherapistandaudiologist #hearinghealth
