Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is moving quickly, with lots of different terminology emerging and a nearly equal amount of misunderstanding. As more organizations inside and outside of insurance explore AI to improve their operational efficiency, it is important to keep in mind risks that accompany this remarkable innovation.

AI in business – risk, threat or opportunity? The debate about AI and its impact on our lives revolves around the uncertainty of what might happen. The current implementation of AI is a brilliant mediocrity. AI can be trained to be an excellent assistant, perform known operations, and combine them. Still, it cannot invent something new, such as a new engine, instead of an improved one, or make an independent decision. Can AI quickly, suddenly, and secretly become an independent, self-sufficient, self-driven and dangerous superpower? There are no concrete arguments for it, only fears and fantasies. Risks and threats come from humans who can use AI for malicious activity, better performance or more innovative solutions and strategies. Those are known risks, and we understand how to manage them. AI potential is similar to or higher than the Internet's, with a probability of a giant bubble. Integration of AI in businesses will be mandatory and implemented promptly. Slow actors and companies will be pushed out of the market. The main goal is to optimise business efficiently and on time for a positive ROI. AI's real risk for business is the lack of skills and infrastructure for that optimisation. The AI transformation will require external support with a new paradigm, not replacing people in operational processes but designing the operational processes for robots and AI. Consulting, vendors and service providers that offer products and services for AI-based changes will make big money, similar to tool suppliers at the time of Gold Ruch. The main question is whether our businesses and economy have the intelligence, time, and resources to realise the potential of AI and manage the bubble. There are a TON of risks associated with AI. On an individual level, on an organizational level, and on a global level. But, the same is true for any technology. Our first technological advancement as a species was fire, and we still haven't eliminated the risks of using it. But, we have identified the risks of fire and learned to manage them. The danger is not gone completely, and there are of course bad actors who use it to inflict harm. Nevertheless, we have harnessed fire to make life infinitely better than it was before, and fueled (no pun intended) even more technological progress. We can do the same with AI, if we understand the risks.

Embarking on an AI project and concerned about the ethical implications? 🤔 It's crucial to consider the broader consequences of your AI technology—beyond just its intended use. 🚀 When building a GenAI tool, it's not enough to just focus solely on the build requirements; you need to anticipate how it might be misused or what the unintended effects are. By thinking through the worst-case scenarios and the potential for misuse, you're not just building technology; you're shaping the future responsibly. Incorporate ethical considerations and game theory into your development process to stay ahead of risks and ensure your AI serves the greater good, not just your bottom line. Ethical foresight in AI isn't just optional. It's essential! #aiethics #projectplanning #innovation #riskmanagement

#AI is rapidly permeating every aspect of our personal and professional lives. While it might seem harmless now, the reality can be different. As Siméon Campos, CEO of SaferAI, puts it: "The reason we don't see large-scale AI harms is that AI systems don't yet have high enough capabilities to cause such harms, not that companies do proper risk management." SaferAI just released ratings on the #RiskManagement practices of major AI companies. While most score farily today, the truth is that there’s a lot more work to do—across every level. That includes #design, #productDesign, and #designOps. As AI opportunities continue to emerge, we need to understand both the ethics and risks, ensuring we start thinking governance and best practices today. This becomes necessarily to build AI approaches that drive performance and productivity without exposing anyone to any risk. It's up to us to create efficient, high-performing, and safe product and design orgs. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eCkG_36U

Ever think about AI's future and the role governance and responsibility play? Artificial intelligence, an ever-evolving domain, is reshaping our world. But as Spiderman's Uncle Ben wisely said, "With great power comes great responsibility." The same rings true for AI. As we sail into the future, steering the ship of AI towards safe and beneficial use cannot be sidelined. AI Governance emerges as the lighthouse amidst the foggy seas. It's about creating a map that navigates ethical, legal, and societal risks. On the other hand, responsibility in AI is about the careful execution of this map. It's about building trustworthy AI solutions that align with human values and societal norms. As someone deeply invested in this domain, I dream of a future where AI advances technology and respects and enhances human lives. Let's ask ourselves - Are we equipped to steer, execute, and make AI work for everyone's benefit? Don't just contemplate; drop your thoughts below!
