"What was the early career mistake that you committed as an HR professional?" I asked this question to our HR friends here on LinkedIn, and I'm glad they've spoken. More than 90% of the poll respondents were HRs, and majority shared the same sentiment: When they were starting in HR, they committed the mistake of 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 (57%)! 36% said they made the mistake of 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆, while 6% said they 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗹𝘆. If you say you are an empathetic HR Pro, look at your behavior and actions. Self-reflect. When you interact with employees, do you do so with empathy? What about with Leaders? External recruitment partners? Candidates? Sales people reaching out to you? Payroll providers? It’s worth examining. So many people I know tell me their interaction with HR pros isn’t a positive one (words I’ve heard recently are: curt, rude, dismissive, arrogant, nasty.). I know most HR pros would be saddened to know this is how they’re showing up to interactions. If you want to/intend to show up to each interaction with empathy, compassion, kindness, partnership, respect …you may just have to start noticing. 💖 #HRCommunity #People #Talent
