The National Rugby League's inaugural Las Vegas Round attracted over 40,000 fans and showcased rugby league to Americans audiences. This historic event has built the foundations for the NRL to enter the most lucrative sports market in the world. But what should happen next? And how can the NRL use this platform to strengthen the code globally? Capturing attention as a once-off and generating a lasting interest are two different things. Research demonstrates how preferences for sports are formed when they are perceived to satisfy certain wants and needs. An estimated 12.2M households watched the Women's Championship game this year, up 62% from 2023. Comparatively, 10M households watched the Men's Championship game, down 8% from last year. With many national sports organizations and clubs driving a desire to increase participation across all levels, we must all be prepared to ensure that our clubs, facilities, and staff are ready to meet this need both for today and tomorrow. Key events of significance in our region, such as multiple high-profile World Cups, as well as an increase in the profile of local events and competitions such as the National Basketball League (NBL), ASB Classic, National Rugby League and A-Leagues have all made community sport an attractive choice and in turn funnelling people into grassroots sports clubs up and down the country. But are you ready to deal with the demand? Do you have enough staff? Are there enough fields and courts? Do you have the technological resources to deal with this significant uptick in interest? How do transitioned/transitioning rugby union from player to non-player interconnect in and to a constantly changing world and others? What is their intersectional experience as parameters, expectations, relation with self, team, others and horizons alter? How do they / we, manage Living, when Life around us changes forever? Literature suggests many union players confronting such issues experience bewilderment, confusion, and sense of meaningless as they search for different occupations, activities, understandings of self and relation at relatively young ages. Some depict catastrophic experience, some successful, but it remains an area lacking in research and which from an existential, phenomenological perspective appears non-existent to my knowledge. Recently I have taken the time to reflect on a very important question. Q: What do you do when you have accomplished all of your goals? A: Set new ones! Your goals in life and Business can adapt and grow the same as you. I am someone who can say I am blessed to have been able to accomplish all of the task I have set out to accomplish. Not because I am better than anyone else or because I have had better opportunities. The Key to my success is simple….. If The Creator set it in front of me, I have already committed to doing the work necessary to complete it. No matter the task, the goal, the work, the barrier, or the project I have already made my mind up that NOTHING CAN or WILL stop me from what The Creator has Requested.
