To mark my first week of year 2 sem 2, I’d like to rewind my first semester, a mess!😆 Who knows where I got the courage, but I joined 2 different hackathons, one alone, and the other with a team of 3 (all first years😦)! My first experience was more than stressful, i could barely get enough sleep and I knew for sure my code was not good, BUT I FINISHED IT! It was a bracket style tournament and I definitely lost in the first round though. It had a 2d brawl theme and as a non-gamer and a newbie, what I submitted was the best I could do and I am proud of it.🫶🏻 In my team of 3, it went off with a bang! I had a great idea and we had a clear goal. This hackathon however focused on real life applications, so the level went up a million notches. To share, our idea was an application to store your bookmarks in different social media platforms! When implementing it, the backend seemed like an infinitely tall wall. Despite tackling the designs (it was gorgeous⭐️) the backend problem was too big to overcome. Our backend submissions ended up being a jumbled up mess😭. Furthermore, I didn’t optimally use the SWOTVAC I received. Instead of being productive and actually doing practice questions, I picked up some shifts! I have truly learned a valuable lesson, in mathematics, practice makes perfect! Thanks and wish me luck😋

Summer break is the perfect opportunity for programming students to step away from the classroom and explore their interests. Use this time to dive into personal projects that excite you - build an app, contribute to open-source software, or experiment with new coding languages. Expand your horizons from mere coding by learning about unrelated fields like art, music, or entrepreneurship. The cross-pollination of ideas can make you a more creative and well-rounded programmer. Most importantly, have fun! Recharge your batteries so you come back in the fall energized and ready to tackle new challenges. The key is to use your summer break purposefully to grow as a programmer. And yes, don't forget to hydrate yourself...
