Lead Reservoir Engineer @ Equinor

The re-appointment of Mr. Faheem Haider as CEO of MPCL for another three years amidst Pakistan's severe energy crisis appears to be a continuation of status quo rather than a step towards addressing the pressing needs of Pakistani citizens. While Mr. Haider may possess the requisite qualifications for the CEO role, the decision holds little significance for ordinary Pakistanis who are grappling with skyrocketing electricity prices, gas shortages, and high inflation. The energy sector in Pakistan, including oil & gas, electricity, and coal, is plagued by corruption, poor governance, and flawed policies that have failed to provide relief to the populace. The lack of cooperation and communication among energy sectors, coupled with a deficit in vision and strategic planning, has exacerbated the country's energy woes. This has resulted in frequent power outages, dwindling gas production, and a staggering import bill, placing immense strain on the national economy and the livelihoods of Pakistani citizens. Rather than perpetuating the current ineffective leadership, Pakistan urgently needs innovative and reform-minded individuals at the helm who can enact meaningful change and steer the energy sector towards sustainable solutions that prioritize affordability, reliability, and national development. #PakistanEnergyCrisis #IneffectiveLeadership #HighElectricityPrices #GasShortages #CorruptionInEnergySector #NeedForReform

...continued..2/2 Current MD of MPCL is hired from UK (I think), I'm sure at high perks, but he is serving Pakistan.... Moin Raza Sb served his entire professional career, except for a very short time, in Pakistan and still working in his capacity to bring more value through his contribution... To me, these CEOs are also employees with a much higher burden on their shoulders and they are paying back to the country with his management excellence. If you really beloeve you have a better understand and will to change our explkration outlook, take initiative and come back to serve this nation. I would take your pardon in saying that the smaller, satellite discoveries we are finding here are the results of the enormous efforts of our expert geoscientists and engineers. Those who are blaming them for not finding a giant are not aware of our subsurface as well as surface conditions. I beg you apology if I hurt you or any other like you, with my words, but I only respect those who are spending their days and nights foe this country... The perks they receive is probably what they deserve coupled with their luck.

Firstly, I must admit that it would take me a month to write so much and I appreciate your concerns about Pakistan's energy and related crises. But, I still don't understand how it relates to reappointment of a company's MD/CEO. He probably performed his tasks which he was supposed to do and in appreciation hks contract is extended for another term. If you are disappointed by all CEOs of Pakistan's energy sector, then I recall how much you appreciated Moin Raza Khan on his recent article; to my surprise after learning your feelings about all CEOs, you look satisfied with Moin Sb who remained CEO of a biggere enterprise for a longer time. You studied in Pakistan and also worked here for some time, why don't you return to Pakistan and play your role to change some colors on our exploration canvas? Don't take it personal, but people working in Europe or US either don't want to return or to return they want extra previliges, may be at highest management levels if not as CEO. I have seen people complaining that people in Pakistan do not respect them or give them the credit they deserve,... At my personal level, I am grateful to all tbose who are working in Pakistan under such hostile political and economical condirions.... 1/2

I think it will get dirty if we go further, and I don't want anything like such to happen. I respect you too, and I mean it. What I would request you is to share a road map you have in your mind and then we will put it on for larger debate to see how we can improve. Keeping in mind, we are living in a country which has an altogether different demography if you compare with Europe and US. We are living in much different and difficult conditions. I don't know the details, but Moin sb has expressed some concerns of safety and security for himself and his family which indicates that being at rop levels, you should have the nerves and courage to face your decisions...

Didn't really get your point. Apparently gives a feel that you are not happy with this reappointment or you wanted MPCL to do something else for the country. I don't keep track of MPCL or any other company, buf I think MPCL has performed well in last few years, and that is what any business entity demands. The country also benefits from successful outcomes. If a business is on a successful track, why would one change its leadership or management for new adventures. I'm sorry if I misunderstood, but I felt your disappointment in the reappointment.

Dear Shiblee Kamal, I fully agree with your genuine concerns about governance in the energy sector of Pakistan and admire your courage to highlight such politically motivated and unfounded reappointments.

Highest resignation rate observed in Mari in last 3 years under his pathetic leadership and way more to come now. Feeling pity for the genuine employees.
