Infectious disease epidemiologist working as a research associate at the CAUSALab, Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health
With part of hepCAUSAL team at #CROI2024 presenting my poster on the effect of DAA on hepatocellular carcinoma risk in people with HIV/HCV & severe liver fibrosis using a target trial emulation framework. DAA reduces the 4-year HCC risk by 1% on an absolute scale and 44% on a relative scale. In people with F4 (cirrhosis), estimated annual risk was above the cost-effective threshold (0.4%). Hence continued HCC monitoring is needed. For people with F3, the estimated annual HCC risk was below this threshold. However, confidence intervals were wide and included the 0.4%. A great opportunity to present our work thanks to #CROI2024 scholarship! CAUSALab Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Linda Wittkop , Sara Lodi, Juan Berenguer

Testicular tumors can be influenced by several factors. One significant risk is undescended testicles, where one or both testicles don't move down into the scrotum before birth. Family history matters too; having a close relative with testicular cancer increases the risk. Certain health conditions, like Klinefelter syndrome or HIV infection, also heighten the chances. Age plays a role, with most cases occurring between the late teens and early 30s. Other factors include race (white men are more likely to develop it) and personal history of testicular cancer. While these factors increase risk, not everyone with them will get testicular cancer, and some people without them may still develop it. Regular check-ups can help catch it early.
