"Many government organizations are still grappling with how to best access and manage data, ensure its integrity and share it with stakeholders to ensure smarter, faster decisions. Within the Defense Department, an effective approach to data access and management can enable what is commonly referred to as “decision advantage” or “decision dominance” — the capability to make better decisions faster, enhanced by technology and convergence." After two months in the job, the Department of Navy’s CIO is looking at updating the sea services’ information superiority vision with a focus on data. Published in 2020, the document had three key focus areas: modernize, innovate and defend. Now, Jane Rathbun wants to move to a more data-centric approach. “We are going to evolve to 2.0 in our information superiority vision [which] is going to go from modernize, innovate and defend — all very important things, we’re not going to stop doing any of those things — to optimize, secure and decide,” she said at the Google Defense Forum Thursday. “How do we make data a central focus of our efforts to make sure that it’s available, transparent, trustworthy, consumable and decision worthy? You’re going to see over the next six months our evolution of that concept.” The Department of Defense writ large has begun to shift to more of a data-centric approach vice a network-centric approach that envisioned a castle-and-mote mentality to network access. A data-centric model is about ensuring the right information can be accessed by the right person anywhere, with the proper security controls in place. Does your team have solutions? 🗣️“...If we just focus on the main driver of those investments, the Department of Defense, there was $1.8 billion requested in the 2024 federal budget for DoD for AI alone. When you look at what checks they actually wrote…it was even greater, it was about $2 billion. Those are good signals that DoD is serious about the application of AI for warfighting capabilities, and frankly, its business processes. With two major caveats…” Listen to CEO Tara Murphy Dougherty discuss key highlights from Govini’s 2024 National Security Scorecard with Thomas Temin of Federal News Network: https://lnkd.in/e7a4RB2n #DefenseTech #NationalSecurity

Got my first pass at thematic coding for my research topic. Here is the Project Question: "What are the perspectives of U.S. defense vendor executives’ regarding strategies for designing cloud-modern solutions that meet U.S. Government's ATO guidelines?" I've still got a few interviews left but we can start to see some themes taking shape. Data analysis will be complete in a few weeks and the paper should be published in June. Innovative Enterprise Architect | Strategic IT Solutions | Driving Innovation and Efficiency | Leading Cross-Functional Teams | Aligning Technology with Mission Objectives
The United States Department of Defense is making significant progress in establishing a robust data backbone for the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiative, which promises to transform military operations. This foundational data backbone is crucial for enabling the seamless integration and sharing of information across various military branches. By enhancing communication and collaboration, JADC2 aims to facilitate faster decision-making and improve operational efficiency during joint missions. The initiative is designed to break down silos between different service branches, ensuring that air, land, sea, space, and cyber forces can work together cohesively. Recent developments include the implementation of advanced cloud-based solutions and new data-sharing protocols that support real-time collaboration among military personnel. For instance, using cloud technology allows service members to access critical data from multiple platforms instantly, regardless of their location. This capability is particularly beneficial during complex operations where timely information can make a significant difference in outcomes. Additionally, exercises testing these systems have already shown promising results, demonstrating how integrated data can enhance situational awareness and operational effectiveness. The work being done now is not just about technology; it represents a cultural shift in how the military operates. Achieving JADC2’s vision of interconnectedness is essential for maintaining a strategic advantage over adversaries, especially in a rapidly changing global landscape where threats can emerge from any domain. As the military embraces this digital transformation, the reliability and scalability of the data infrastructure will be critical. This transformation will not only enhance military readiness but also shape future strategies, ensuring that forces can respond effectively to dynamic challenges. #JADC2 #DataBackbone #MilitaryInnovation #Pentagon #JointOperations #Cyber #CloudComputing #DigitalTransformation #DefenseStrategy #Interoperability #FutureWarfare #Agility #ResponsiveForce #StrategicAdvantage #MilitaryReadiness
