How can nurse leaders manage change and build resilience within their teams? In the season finale of The Handoff Podcast, Dr. Michael Jones, DHA, MBA, RN, NI-BC, PMP, NEA-BC, FACHE, a regional director at CommonSpirit Health, shares strategies he’s used to help his teams successfully navigate stakeholder engagement, process improvement, and change management. “One of the first things I work with my team on is what's within our sphere of control. We often get stuck on events and decisions that really fall outside of our sphere of influence. So I try to bring them back in and say, okay, what's in our sphere of control? How do we manage that? And that's where we're going to invest and spend our energy.” Listen to Dr. Jones’ insights: https://lnkd.in/gt9-ZQ84 #nursing #healthcare

Repairing a practice culture doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive; the repairing just has to be practiced to become part of the culture. “The other thing leaders can do is make communication a competency…You could have a staff meeting, or the directors could bring the managers in, and you could say, ‘What conversation are you avoiding? Write it on this index card, the most difficult conversation for you to have with an employee [or coworker or peer]?’ You just put all these index cards in a box and that becomes your competency…On a competency day, you pull them out one by one and people have to answer them. If you want to change the culture, people have to stop self-silencing, and you have to treat communication as the tool that it is that makes us different than the chimps.” - Kathleen Bartholomew #workplacewellbeing #workplacesafety #workplaceinnovation #quadrupleaim #nursingexcellence #communication
