On the issue of these pre tertiary education examinations; Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post UTME). Let me share my own story too. When I was about to begin my tertiary education, I sat for two pre tertiary education examinations; the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which was done twice and a similar one which was done once and the results of those three tests were not as good as my other classmates despite taking pre classes for the first one. The majority of my classmates went from secondary school straight to the universities while I was still battling on passing my pre tertiary examinations. Because of the scores I had for the examinations, I had no other choice than to attend a school synonymous to a polytechnic which I didn’t want to attend but at the same time, I wanted to gain my tertiary education and not become idle. But after the completion of the synonymous polytechnic, I transferred to the university where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree. The excitement to get my BSc degree at twenty-two was in me but Allah, the Best of Planner, showed me that HE is the one who created me and HE knows everything we don’t because it would shock you when I tell you I didn’t get my BSc not until I was twenty-four. Before I could enter the university was also a difficult task because some things occurred so I spent a year doing something that helped me financially. But, Alhamduleela, I gained admission to the university I graduated from with ease and happiness. For those youngsters who took the JAMB and Post UTME and the results were not favorable due to one reason or the other, let it be known that it is not the end of the world. Things you should do in the meantime; take this time to re-strategize on how to pass the next set of examinations or learn one or more skill(s) to better your lives.

Is attendance really a myth in DU colleges? Well, not anymore. Under the New educational policy(NEP), a continuous assessment(CA) of 40 marks was introduced along with the existing internal assessment(IA) of 30 marks totalling up to 70 marks for internals. This is the standard criteria followed for core subjects : IA=12+12+6 Out of which 6 is for attendance 5/40 in CA is for attendance as well. Simply put, attendance now stands for (5+6=11) out of the total 70 for internals. Mostly, professors do consider attendance as a factor while evaluating other parts of the assessment. Since internals make up to 44% of the total grade of a subject, it is not feasible to ignore the importance of scoring in internals. My take as a NEP student who balances internals and extracurriculars? I try to maintain a perfect 66.67% attendance🥲. Try going the extra mile to make your presence in class known. Even if you’re missing classes due to extracurriculars, let your teachers know to make a sincere impression. (P.s. I’ll be sharing tips that help me survive NEP in the upcoming posts. So if this one helped, then look out for the next one!)
