VARD part of the world's largest research initiative to strengthen green maritime development.🌍 FME Maritime Energy Transition (MarTrans) is an 8-year collaborative project with 65 partners from the maritime industry and research environment. The focus is research, innovation, and education to accelerate the green transition in maritime shipping, while increasing value creation and exports for the Norwegian maritime industry. Vard's role in FME MarTrans is to contribute with financial support and resources in various projects. The research centre also serves as a "birth unit" for new collaborative projects between the partners. - This will be an important arena for networking, cross-border collaboration, and an arena to add relevance to the research work, says Håvard Vollset Lien, Vice President Research and Innovation at VARD. In #Scotland, one of the windiest nations in Europe, #RWE owns and operates 10 onshore #windfarms with a combined capacity of 225MW.   🌎 In the face of #climatechange, Scottish Government has set out an ambition to deploy 20GW of onshore wind by 2030. Creating an Offshore Wind Model with the University of Maine. The students designed this model to demonstrate the layout and scale of future offshore wind installations off the Maine coast. For more than 10 years, the team at UMaine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center has been leading the way with their pioneered patented semi-submersible floating offshore wind platform technology. This groundbreaking work is set to boost offshore wind tech growth and use, and it also aims to explore how offshore wind projects affect fishing, wildlife, and the environment. Innovative technology is being developed right here in Maine, and research from scientists at the University of Maine has positioned their state at the forefront of floating wind turbine technology. What about offshore power supply to moored and anchored vessels? Today, the BlueBARGE project is in the spotlight as part of our social media campaign "Meet the Projects". Horizon Europe, including the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport, is a key funding tool to enhance Technology Leadership in the WaterborneTP sector. The BlueBARGE Project is set to develop a modular and scalable power-barge system to supply green energy to moored and anchored vessels. Using containerized modules based on high-efficiency batteries, along with hydrogen fuel cells and generators, it aims to significantly reduce maritime greenhouse gas emissions. A prototype will be created and tested to ensure safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
