A combination of liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) and hydrogen fuel cell technology as part of the transition to zero-emission waterborne transport. Today, the Ship-aH2oy project is in the spotlight as part of our social media campaign "Meet the Projects". Horizon Europe and the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport are key funding tools to enhance Technology Leadership in the WaterborneTP sector. Ship-aH2oy aims to demonstrate the feasibility of the LOHC–fuel cell concept as a safe and sustainable solution for power and heat generation onboard ships. A first-of-its-kind 1 MW LOHC–fuel cell power system will be installed and demonstrated onboard an existing offshore wind vessel to enable zero-emission operations. The vessel is part of Edda Wind’s growing fleet of vessels which are prepared for the future installation of the LOHC–FC system, providing a clear path to exploitation. A comprehensive replication study will assess the potential for larger systems and application to other shipping segments, including ROPAX vessels.
