Lakeway Link, in its latest strategic move towards sustainable operations, has announced a significant new partnership with ScanOcean, a leader in renewable marine fuel solutions. This collaboration marks the introduction of B15-DMA, a marine fuel with 15% renewable content, for Lakeway Link’s new roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) service connecting Port of Södertälje, Sweden, and Gdynia, Poland. Under the agreement, ScanOcean AB will supply the B15-DMA fuel, meeting the stringent ISO 8217 compatibility standards and boasting an ISCC-EU certification. This fuel not only supports the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as mandated by the EU ETS obligations, but also significantly improves the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and Clean Shipping Index (CSI) scores for vessels. The fuel is also compatible with the upcoming FuelEU Maritime regulations. The deliveries of B15-DMA will be made in Södertälje, Sweden, to the M/S Lakeway Express, thereby kickstarting the utilization of this innovative marine fuel. Thanks to their expert preparation, everything worked flawlessly. Viking Line to join Gasum’s FuelEU Maritime pooling service 🚢 🌊 Gasum has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Finnish shipping company Viking Line on joining Gasum’s FuelEU Maritime pooling service. Viking Line uses LNG-powered vessels to transport passengers and cargo between Finland and Sweden. Viking Line plans to offer over-compliance to the pool by running its daily route on Gasum’s renewable waste and manure based bio-LNG, which offers more than a 90% emissions reduction when compared to conventional fossil fuels such as MGO. 🌿 💬 “We are thrilled at the opportunity to have a pioneering Nordic shipping company like Viking Line join our FuelEU maritime pooling service. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and its subsidiary MOL Drybulk Ltd. have set their sights on harnessing wind power to drive their vessels into a greener future. The companies have unveiled plans to equip seven of their new bulk carriers and multi-purpose vessels with wind propulsion systems, including the innovative Wind Challenger technology. The ambitious Green Fuels Hamburg project, initially set to produce 10,000 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2026, has been terminated, according to the Hamburg Senate. The consortium behind the project, which included Uniper, Siemens Energy, Airbus, and Sasol EcoFT, announced it would no longer pursue the initiative. Launched in 2022, the project aimed to establish a SAF production plant in Hamburg’s industrial regions of Billbrook and Rothenburgsort, with support from Hamburg University of Technology, the city’s senate, and Hamburg Airport. Emirates had also expressed interest in sourcing PtL-SAF from this venture. The reasons for the project's cancellation have not been disclosed. However, Senate members are concerned about meeting SAF demand as the EU Refuel regulations come into effect on January 1, 2025. Stephan Jersch, environmental policy spokesperson, highlighted the potential shortfall, noting that Hamburg Airport will require approximately 7,000 tonnes of SAF in 2025, with current supply options still undetermined.
