Tickets for Kacey Musgraves' Deeper Well World Tour started pre-sales yesterday, with tickets officially being sold to the public this upcoming Friday. After details regarding ticket pricing for the tour were released, some fans online voiced disappointment that the tour uses dynamic pricing. So, what is dynamic pricing? When a tour or specific event chooses to use dynamic pricing, the prices of each ticket will fluctuate based on demand for each show. As a result, two people sitting in the same section at a venue might have paid drastically different prices to attend the event, depending on how in demand the show was deemed at the time of purchase. Fans who have purchased tickets through the tour's pre-sale events have documented specific price points based on the location of each seat. The KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky, where Kacey Musgraves will perform on November 12, created a seating graph showing how each seat is initially priced. However, the bottom of the image includes a disclaimer stating that the prices can change at any time. Definition of a Gold-Plated Problem. What keeps event organisers awake at night? Quite often, it’s the fear that attendees won’t show up on the day. It’s less likely to be that too darn many are queuing around the block hours before your doors open. But, as many of us in the marketing industry know, this was the situation that faced the organisers of MAD//FEST this year. A truly gold-plated problem. But, as with all problems, it’s still one that needed to be solved. Last week I was lucky enough to be given a tour of the 2024 Mad//Fest venue by Harry Clark, Ian Houghton and team. It’s clear they’ve taken this problem and run with it. Sprawling across both sides of Brick Lane and engulfing every one of the independent shops and bars, 2024’s festival is going to include a huge, dedicated area for registrations, two main stages, multiple, separate food courts, and even a sit-down restaurant. With 15,000 ebullient media industry reprobates descending for 3 days in July 2024, Rough Trade isn’t going to know what’s hit it! With all the talk of recessions and budget cuts, it’s inspiring to see an event of this nature weathering the storm and continuing to scale. I’m excited to be playing a part next year.
