Tarros Line Introduces New LEX Service Connecting Italy, Libya, and Egypt Shipping Arabia, May 3, 2024 - In a strategic expansion of maritime connections between Italy, Libya, and Egypt, Tarros Line, in partnership with Messina Line, is set to launch a new shipping service named LEX in June 2024. The service aims to provide a more efficient logistical corridor for Italian industry, enhancing trade and transportation links across the Mediterranean. Hani Abdel Rashid of Tarros Med Egypt, agents for the Italian line, announced that the LEX service would start operations with two ships, offering departures every 12 days. With the Red Sea crisis continuing to perpetuate congestion across key container hubs in the West Mediterranean, a planned greenfield port in Morocco could become one of the most hotly contested port concessions in recent history. John Paul-Verschurre, ports & logistics director at consultancy Rebel Group, told delegates at last week’s TOC Europe 24 event in Rotterdam, utilisation at Tanger Med had now reached (an effectively full) 91%, with Algeciras at 82%, Barcelona at 66% and Valencia at 61%. As result, many carriers are looking with increasing interest at the proposed Nador West Port, which will see a 3m teu container terminal built, among other facilities.
