An exhilarating milestone! Earlier today, I successfully defended my Master's thesis titled "Analyzing the Role of SLC25A32 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma" at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine 🎉 The journey was arduous, with countless hours spent in the lab, overcoming obstacles like creating knockout/knockdown cell line models using cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas9 and shRNA techniques. There were moments of frustration from failed experiments, but the payoff made it all worthwhile. My research explored the pivotal role of the SLC25A32 gene in hepatocellular carcinoma progression, employing a comprehensive array of techniques. From microscopy and proliferation assays to migration and invasion analyses on overexpressed cell lines, each experiment brought me closer to unraveling this intricate mechanism. I wouldn't have made it this far without the unwavering support and guidance of my advisor, Devanand Sarkar, and my esteemed thesis committee members. Their mentorship and belief in my abilities kept me motivated through the toughest challenges. I'm also incredibly grateful to my friends and family, who were my constant pillars of strength throughout this journey. As I transition into the next phase, I'm actively seeking full-time opportunities as a Research Associate or Research Scientist in molecular and cellular biology, cancer research, genetics, or related domains. My expertise spans a wide range of skills, including aseptic technique, Western blot analysis, qPCR, CRISPR/Cas9, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, organoid culture, and mouse behavioral tests. During my time as a Student Research Assistant, I gained invaluable experience investigating bile acid activities, developing novel biomarkers for early disease detection, and conducting behavioral experiments on mice. This hands-on training has fortified my passion for driving scientific advancements. I'm open to relocation and driven by an insatiable curiosity to uncover the complexities of the biological world. Hi LinkedIn Fam, I am excited to share that I have successfully defended my dissertation titled "Endocytosis, Cytotoxicity, Cell death mechanism and Bioimaging of Doxorubicin-Based Combination Nanomedicines”, a subset of final dissertation titled “Ionic Nanomedicines and Biocompatible Hydrogel: Synthesis, Characterization and Application in Cancer and Drug Delivery” This achievement stands as a testament to resilience, perseverance, hard work, and commitment. I am also thankful to my advisor Dr. Noureen Siraj and committee members- Dr. Robert J Griffin, Dr. Nawab Ali, Dr. Anindya Ghosh and Dr. Brain Walker for their time and significant contribution during this phase. I am using this opportunity to share that I am actively seeking opportunities in analytical scientist roles, postdoctoral positions, or scientist position focused on cancer research. About me: PhD in Applied Chemistry, research focus on drugs design/development, characterization, in vitro and in vivo/preclinical drug testing for cancer research. Skills: Expertise in different analytical methods including chromatographic and spectroscopic methods for drug separation and characterization. Examples include UV-Vis, Fluorimetry, FTIR, NMR, DLS, GC-MS, HPLC-MS. Experience with different fluorophores, NIR dyes, photosensitizers, photothermal agents, and FRET-based bioimaging probes. Experience with cell culture/ cell-based assay (in vitro) including proliferation, cytotoxicity, flow cytometry, confocal imaging. Experience in handling and conducting experiments in animal model, tissue imaging and drug validation. Authored and co-authored various peer-reviewed publications. In December 2022, I joined Marquette University in Milwaukee to lead the BioMedical-Collaborative (BMC) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. The BioMedical Collaborative is a unique innovation engine with three primary missions: - To assist faculty in generating data sets necessary for grants and manuscripts. - To teach and train the next generation of students in techniques relevant to “real-life” projects at Industry level, particularly at the graduate level in our PhD program and our new Masters in Biomedical Sciences program. We will be conducting training and teaching for basic and advanced biomedical techniques to graduate level students, which includes a Business of Biotech (Spring 2024 and 2025) course to cover industry-relevant topics often overlooked in academia, as well as Drug Discovery to Translation course starting in the Fall of 2024. - To identify promising projects for translation and commercialization. Over the past 18 months, we have assembled a team of experts skilled in in vitro and in vivo assay development, behavioural techniques, animal colony management, and new technology identification. (#nickraddatz, #chadbeyer) We have also enhanced our communication efforts through social media to engage both the university and external communities (#emmawalker). The BioMedical Collaborative not only manages core laboratories but also deploys our talent to advance projects across all scientific development stages. So far, we have generated data for a Faculty driven NIH grant application, evaluated advanced imaging techniques, and established a new animal colony to support faculty research. Additionally, we have identified and supported the development of translational projects in small molecules, biologics, gene therapy, and platform technologies for mental health and neurodegenerative disorders.
